As if anyone needed another reason to subscribe to Netflix – and no, we’re not paid by them – the on-demand content streaming service has added Homeland and American Horror Story to its impressive roster of TV shows.

Homeland is a fast-paced political thriller with a focus on terrorism and international affairs. It stars Claire Danes as Carrie Mathison, an anti-terrorism agent with mental health problems, and Damien Lewis, a once lost American solider suspected of terrorist activity.

The Emmy award-winning show managed to get people talking with its third series, the most valuable form currency – far more than trailers and awards – for any TV series. And despite the ending of the third series receiving mixed reviews, its American broadcaster Showtime has ordered a fourth.

American Horror Story uses the anthology series format, like the much talked about and recently finished True Detective. Season one follows the story of a family that moves into a home haunted by its former deceased occupants, while series two centres on the inhabitants of an institution for the criminally insane.

"We are excited to bring both of these brilliant series, Homeland and American Horror Story, to our members in the UK & Ireland," said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer at Netflix. "These global smash series are two of the most talked about shows in entertainment, and we think that our members are going to love these latest additions."

HomelandHomeland will be available on Netflix soon

Netflix already has a solid reputation for providing high quality TV. In terms of drama, Breaking Bad, House of Cards and Orange is The New Black are popular, while on the comedy front, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and the American version of The Office are keeping the £5.99-paying subscribers happy.
