The couple hit headlines last summer (14) after Ciara allegedly discovered the Turn On The Lights star had been unfaithful and called off their engagement, just months after giving birth to their son, Future Zahir Wilburn.

They attempted a reconciliation in September (14), but parted ways for good at the end of 2014.

Now Future has opened up about the broken engagement, claiming problems in their relationship first arose as Ciara began working closely with producer Dr. Luke on her album Jackie and shut Future out of the creative process, despite scoring a chart hit with 2013's Body Party, which was produced by Mike Will Made It.

Future claims the pressure of planning their big day also started to take its toll, as the R&B singer's dreams of a big wedding clashed with his own ideas for an intimate ceremony.

In his new docu-series Like I Never Left, he recalls, "At the same time, we were about to go and get married. She was like, 'We need a date,' and go on and do it, and I'm like, 'No... I want to marry you but I can't have no big wedding on E! News (sic). I can't have these media outlets covering my wedding... I'm not comfortable with where I am at in my career, I'm not comfortable about compromising.'"

In a separate interview with HuffPost Live on Monday (13Jul15), Future dismissed speculation their break-up was the result of his cheating, insisting he was the one who ended the romance because they "grew apart".

He explains, "Our relationship had nothing to do with cheating. We grew apart. As a man, you want to make decisions for your family, and sometimes the lady doesn't see what you see. I called (the engagement) off long before any cheating rumours came out. I was like, 'This isn't going to work out.'"

Future goes on to admit he "felt embarrassed" for Ciara after they parted ways, because she had already posed for the cover of Brides magazine and gushed about plans for their wedding.

Ciara, who is now dating American football star Russell Wilson, has yet to share her side of the story, but she has made it clear she doesn't agree with Future's comments by taking to Twitter.com to write, "Some person is so dishonest and ignorant that they don't deserve a response (sic). Furthermore, one's main focus should be on being a good parent."
