The 71 year-old Oscar winner is the first big name to be cast in the upcoming NBC live stage production, and he can't to put on his "tap shoes again."
Christopher Walken is headed to the stage!
The veteran actor has been cast as the villainous Hook in NBS's upcoming production of 'Peter Pan Live!'
Walken, who won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 1978, is the first big name to be cast in the live stage production.
"He's one of the most unique actors in our business..and he might really just be a song and dance man at heart," NBC president Bob Greenblatt stated Sunday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills, via E!News.
Adding, "He's fearless as a comedic actor and we guarantee he will bring his own take to Captain Hook. This might be the first tap-dancing Captain Hook."
The 71 year-old actor first began his illustrious acting career in musicals, and he expressed excitement in returning to the stage.
"I started my career in musicals," Walken said, "and it's wonderful after all this time, at this point in my career, to be in this classic musical I watched as a child and to work with Neil Meron and Craig Zadan again after Hairspray. It's a chance to put on my tap shoes again."
The television network will hope to repeat the success of last December's live presentation of 'The Sound of Music!,' which starred Carrie Underwood and Stephen Moyer.
The production earned mixed reviews but created plenty of excitement and intrigue. It garnered 18.4 million viewers and scored a 4.6 average rating in the adult demographic, making it the highest rating NBC production since the last episode of ER in 2009.
The cast of NBC's 'The Sound of Music Live!'
Although Walken is the only confirmed actor attached to the forthcoming musical, Greenblatt previously stated that he wants Miley Cyrus to play Peter Pan.
'Peter Pan Live!' will air on NBC on December 4th.
