THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, the highly anticipated new Batman movie by Christopher Nolan, has officially begun production and the film's first photo has hit the web, reports MTV News. The Dark Knight Rises sees Christian Bale reprise his role as the caped crusader, and filming is expected to span across three continents, Asia, Europe and North America.
Warner Bros has released the first official photograph from the movie, featuring the muscular villain 'Bane', played by British actor and Inception star Tom Hardy. Bathed in shadows, Bane has his back to the camera while wearing a sinister mask. Most will not be familiar with the villainous character, but he is cherished by hard-core comic book fans. The Bane photo is part of an all-new viral marketing campaign for the movie, which began with a muffled audio file on the official website. Fans discovered a 'Twitter hashtag' in the file which provided a trail to the image of Bane. The movie isn't scheduled to hit cinemas until July 2012, but speaking in February, director Nolan said, "We're very much excited about really finishing a trilogy and giving a conclusion to our story. And that's what we're doing". The movie is already confirmed as being Nolan's last Batman movie, and the director will hoping the film's emulates the success of 'The Dark Knight' in 2008.
'The Dark Knight Rises' will also see Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman and Michael Caine reprise their roles from the last movie, while Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anne Hathaway have also joined the cast.
