Actress Christina Ricci has praised her Monster co-star Charlize Theron's ability to vividly act out a harrowing rape scene without suffering the real after effects.

The 24-year-old Hollywood star - who played Theron's girlfriend in the gruelling biopic of serial killer AILEEN WUORNOS - insists she isn't jealous Charlize's performance garnered such rave reviews, because she knows she could never have portrayed the murderess as the fear the experience would leave her emotionally scarred.

Ricci says, "I don't know that I could have done what Charlize did. All that rape and trauma... I'm sorry, but that's a lot. In any scene where someone hurts you, even if it's just a scene, you still have an instinct of rage.

"You really want to kill the other person. Or at least I do. I don't know if I could simulate being raped without having the actual emotional effects of it."
