Christina Ricci has told of how she was going to quit acting if she didnt get the lead role in her new movie Black Snake Moan.

Ricci rose to fame as a child actress for her role as gloomy child Wednesday Adams in the Adams Family and her performance in Mermaids alongside singer Cher and Winona Ryder.

Yet her life-long passion for acting could have come to an end if she failed to impress director Craig Brewer at the audition for her new movie in which she stars alongside the legendary Samuel L. Jackson and pop star Justin Timberlake.

According to Wenn news, the 27-year-old actress said: "I told my therapist, if I didn't get the part I was going to quit."

"What I meant was that it so seemed like what I should be doing that, if I didn't get it, I would have no idea of what it was that people wanted me to be doing in this industry and what I was supposed to be doing," she explained.

And her vibrant audition for the character of Rae, a messed-up woman with a disturbing past, clinched the deal. Christina joked: "Nobody can freak out quite like me!"
