Christina Perri (born 19.8.1986)
Christina Perri is a Philadelphia-born songwriter and musician. Her career breakthrough came with the popularity of her song 'Jar of Hearts'.
Childhood: Christina Perri was raised in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, along with her brother Nick Perri, who was a guitarist in the bands Shinedown and Silvertide and with Perry Farrell.
Christina taught herself how to play guitar, mainly by watching tapes of Shannon Hoon of Blind Melon. She attended Archbishop Ryan High School.
Music Career: Christina Perri moved to Los Angeles on the day that she turned 21. She married, but divorced her husband 18 months later and moved back to Philadelphia. During this period, she wrote 'Jar of Hearts', which would become a hit for her. When she returned to Los Angeles, she spent her days working as a waitress at Melrose Café and spent the evenings recording music.
'Jar of Hearts' was first featured on the US TV talent show So You Think You Can Dance in June 2010. This came about after one of Christina's friends had passed the song to the choreographer Stacey Tookey. Both Christina and her friend were in the audience watching the performance. Following its use in the show, the track sold 48,000 digital copies, debuting at number 63 on the Billboard Hot 100. Within a month, it had sold over 100,000.
Perri then recorded a video for the track, which ended up in the VH1 Top 20 music video countdown. Her live TV debut came in July on CBS' The Early Show. As a result of the attention she had attracted, as well as her online sales, Christina Perri signed a deal with Atlantic Records in July 2010, whilst Roadrunner Records continued to promote 'Jar of Hearts' on US radio.
Christina Perri continued to make a number of high profile TV appearances, including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Conan.
In November 2010, Perri released an EP entitled The Ocean Way Sessions, featuring the tracks 'Bang Bang Bang', 'Black & Blue', 'Daydream' and 'Tragedy', as well 'Jar of Hearts'.

Perri is a self-confessed fan of the novel and movie trilogy. In January 2012, she announced that the song had been certified Gold, meaning it had sold 500,000 copies or more.
She performed 'Arms' on the November 1st results show for ABC's Dancing with the Stars. That month, she also performed 'Jar of Hearts' on Strictly Come Dancing.

Has Christina Perri let slip that she's recording a 'Lovestrong' follow-up?
Christina Perri has taken to Twitter to reveal that she could be back in the studio recording a second album with the simple hashtag #albumtwo.
The 'Jar of Hearts' hitmaker could be set to release a follow-up to her 2011 debut album 'Lovestrong' which became a top ten hit in both the UK and US Album Charts. Today (July 12th 2013) she posted a photo of herself on Instagram donning headphones in a recording studio with the caption, 'beat box 101 #albumtwo', and reaffirmed the suggestion with a further Tweet reading simply, 'whoa. #albumtwo'. So if the prospect of a second album isn't exciting enough, we're possibly going to be hearing a new 'beat-boxing' side to her music... well maybe not.
Christina hit the charts back in 2010 with 'Jar of Hearts' after the single was played on Fox's 'So You Think You Can Dance'. It was certified platinum and reached number 4 in the UK charts, while another of her singles, 'A Thousand Years', also did well after it featured on the soundtrack to teen vampire flick 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1'. Her last release was 'Distance' featuring Jason Mraz in March 2012, so we're definitely glad to see her back in the studio after more than a year!

Many consider Mariah Carey's 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' the last true Christmas song to be released; it's hard to believe that was back in 1994! Since then, there's been a sputtering of jovial Christmas releases, but nothing that seems to stand the test of time. 2012 has actually delivered a handful of relatively acceptable additions - both cover of classic tracks and original tracks. Here are a few of the tracks you might be hearing more of over Christmas.

The tracklisting for Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 has finally been announced, via Yahoo and amongst the highlights of this latest instalment are Green Day, Passion Pit and Ellie Goulding. Green Day, obviously are a pretty big coup for the compilers of the soundtrack (Summit Entertainment release the album in collaboration with Chop Shop Records and Atlantic Records) and the band’s bass player Mike Dirnt spoke to Yahoo! about contributing their track ‘The Forgotten’ and said “When we were asked to be part of the 'Twilight: Breaking Dawn - Part 2' soundtrack, we readily agreed because the films are an insane cultural phenomenon, and we have always been impressed with the way the 'Twilight' soundtracks are so carefully curated.”
Ellie Goulding’s track will draw attention to the soundtrack too, not only because it’s an exclusive track but because it’s the first track that she’s released, to have been produced by her new boyfriend Skrillex. Following in the vein of slightly kooky female artists, St. Vincent and Feist have both contributed a track; both will undoubtedly make an excellent accompaniment to the dark, moody atmosphere of the Twilight movie.
Coming from a slightly more mainstream angle, Christina Perri returns with ‘A Thousand Years (Part Two)’. Naturally, it’s a follow on from her theme to the first installment of Breaking Dawn and Perri was almost a dead cert to be included on this final musical bow. She’s such a fan of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight saga that she has the word ‘Bitten’ tattooed on her, in the Twilight font. She told Yahoo! “I am so honored and excited to be involved again in this final film and soundtrack.” She revealed that part two of the track will be different but hasn’t yet said how and the tracks are yet to be released. “It's not the same [as the original]... you'll just have to wait and see how,” she teased.

It isn't common for an unsigned artist to be invited to a prime time television show to perform, but that is exactly what happened to Christina Perri as she appeared on 'So You Think You Can Dance' in America. The performance resulted in a record deal that replaced her role as a café manager and the rest, as they say, is history for the 25 year old.
