Christina Milian is an American actress and singer.
Childhood: Christina Milian was born in Jersey City, New Jersey but grew up in Waldorf, Maryland. Her parents are Carmen and Don Flores; they divorced when she was 13. She changed her name to Milian when she began to pursue an acting career. At the age of nine, she auditioned for talent agencies and appeared in commercials for Wendy's and Honeycomb. She moved to LA at 13 in order to become an actress.
Career: Christina Milian met Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins when she moved and they began working together in the recording studio after he was impressed by her singing voice. She started writing songs at 17 in order to put together a demo to get a record deal. In 2000, she appeared on Ja Rule's second album 'Rule 3:36' in the song 'Between Me and You' which reached number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and landed her a deal with Def Soul records. The following year she co-wrote Jennifer Lopez's track 'Play' and PYT's first single 'Same Ol' Same Ol''. That year also saw the release of her self-titled debut album in the UK. Two singles from the album, ‘AM to PM’ and ‘When You Look at Me’, both charted worldwide, reaching number three in the UK. One of her first big acting roles was on 1998 TV series ‘Movie Surfers’. She also appeared in episodes of ‘Sister, Sister’ and ‘Smart Guy’, as well as in the movies ‘American Pie’ and ‘The Wood’. 2002 saw her become a host for MTV’s live music show ‘Wannabe’ before appearing in the movie ‘Torque’ in 2004, which starred Martin Henderson and Ice Cube, and landing a lead role in ‘Love Don't Cost a Thing’ opposite Nick Cannon. In 2003, Def Soul shut down and she was transferred to Island Records. The following year she released her second album 'It's About Time' which included the Grammy nominated hit track 'Dip It Low'. She opened for Usher and Kanye West on tour to promote the album, which hit number 14 on the Billboard 200 album chart and received a Grammy nomination. She appeared in the movie 'Be Cool' in 2005 with John Travolta and Uma Thurman, before starring alongside Kristen Bell and Ian Somerhalder in the 2006 horror 'Pulse'. In 2006, she released third album 'So Amazin'' produced by Cool & Dre. Its lead single, 'Say I', featured Young Jeezy and hit number four in the UK while the album reached number eleven on the Billboard 200. That year, she left Island Def Jam allegedly due to a 'budget cut'. In 2008, she signed with MySpace Records and released single 'Us Against the World' she announced that she would release a fourth album, 'Elope', on which she collaborated with the likes of Kanye West, Rick Ross and Pitbull. However, after recording some songs she returned to acting briefly to film 'Bring It On: Fight to the Finish'. She starred in the Christmas movie 'Snowglobe' alongside Lorraine Bracco in 2007 and had a role in 'Ghosts of Girlfriends Past' with Matthew McConaughey in 2009. In 2009, she signed with Radio Killa Records but later also signed a deal to release 'Elope' through Interscope Records. The album was meant to be released in 2010, but her marriage and pregnancy delayed it. In 2011, she became the official Social Media Correspondent for 'The Voice'. The following year it was announced that she had signed to Young Money through which she will now release her album.
Personal life: Christina Milian dated Nick Cannon from 2003 until 2005; the relationship ended when it arose that he had cheated on her. During that time, she was filming 'Pulse' in Romania where she also suffered from a string of racial abuse. In 2006, she dated Andre Lyon from Cool & Dre but they broke up in 2009 due to the long distance between them. In 2009, she began dating The-Dream. That same year saw them elope in Las Vegas and announce that they were expecting Milian's first child who was subsequently named Violet Madison Nash. However, the pair had separated by the end of 2009 and they were divorced in 2011.
