Christina Aguilera has tightened her circle of friends after realising some pals had a secret agenda.
The pop star struggled through a variety of public woes earlier this year (11), including divorcing her husband Jordan Bratman, fumbling the National Anthem during a live Super Bowl performance and getting arrested for public intoxication.
The string of incidents caused some of her pals to reach out, wanting to help the singer get back on track, but the Beautiful hitmaker admits some of her so-called friends didn't have the most authentic intentions.
During an appearance on U.S. morning show Today on Tuesday (17May11), she said, "I think there were some definite ex-(dis)gruntled employees along the way. Whenever things like this happen to you, some people just want to kick you when you're down... Right now I feel that I've found my true friends and the people who are really there for me and have stuck by me and just supported me...
"After you've been in this business for quite some time you're able to weed out, 'OK is this person just on a power-trip feeding-frenzy of... this is what's great for you'. Some people like the drama of creating it around you (just) to make themselves look better like, 'Oh I saved her.'"
