LATEST: Christie Brinkley has described the "nightmare" of breaking the news of her divorce to her children, on the third day of her divorce trial.
The star's high-drama divorce from Peter Cook continued in New York on Monday (07Jul08), with Brinkley recalling how she told her children she and Cook were headed for a divorce.
Brinkley revealed how she refused to tell their sons Jack, 13, and Sailor, 10, details of Cook's affair with his teenage assistant Diana Bianchi and his costly pornography habit.
She remembers, "My first conversation was to reassure to the kids that everything was going to be fine, but mummy and daddy had a little argument and that we are going to have a little timeout.
"I told them, 'I think daddy has fallen out of love with me. When that happens, people move apart but that doesn't mean mummy and daddy don't love you.'"
The former model added that breaking the news and then throwing a birthday party for 30 children was a "nightmare".
Brinkley, 54, also told the court she hasn't "even thought about dating or anything like that", since the split, adding it would be "inappropriate because I think the kids have been through a lot of changes".
Cook's lawyer Norman Sheresky spoke out against Brinkley, insisting she is merely out for "revenge" by publicly seeking to humiliate her cheating husband.
The trial continues.
