Hollywood star Christian Slater will make his British stage debut today (10AUG04), ten days after he contracted chicken pox.

The star was due to appear in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest in Edinburgh, Scotland last Friday (6AUG04) but the show was delayed when Slater and co-star Dexter Fletcher developed the contagious disease during rehearsals last month (30JUL04).

Slater then developed a secondary infection and exhaustion kept him offstage longer.

Producers were concerned Slater is still not ready to return, but the star has insisted on taking part in today's public dress rehearsal - which forms part of the Edinburgh Fringe FESTIVAL.

A spokesperson says, "The producer doesn't think he's ready for it yet but he's determined."

The show will run in Edinburgh for three weeks before transferring to London's West End.
