Chris Rock's political farce Head Of State has brought Queen Latifah's reign at the top of the box office charts to an end.

The rapper-turned-actress' comedy Bringing Down The House had been in the number one spot for three weeks, but now funnyman Rock's directorial debut has taken over.

Head Of State, which stars the comic as a black presidential hopeful, took in over $14 million (GBP9.3 million) over the weekend to claim the top spot.

Latifah's comedy still had an impressive weekend and held-off other new releases to claim the number two spot and take $12.5 million (GBP8.3 million) over the weekend.

There was more good news for Latifah - her other hit movie Chicago enjoyed a boost following its Oscars win and took in another $7.4 million (GBP4.9 million) taking its three-month total to $144.9 million (GBP96.6 million).
