Star Trek actor Chris Pine has signed on to star opposite Gal Gadot in Warner Bros. upcoming Wonder Woman movie The Wrap has reported. Pine is set to join the DC Movie Universe playing Steve Trevor, the love interest of Gadot's heroine.

According to The Wrap, the actor has signed a multi-picture deal with the studio, which includes sequel options. Pine’s character is described as being ‘no mere love interest’ for Wonder Woman aka Diana Prince and although plot details remain under wraps there’s said to be plenty of action to keep Mr Trevor busy.

Pine had been rumoured to be up for a role in another upcoming comic book adaptation by Warner Bros, Green Lantern Corps, but it looks like he can now be ruled out of the running for that one.

Wonder Woman is set to hit cinemas on June 23rd 2017 with Gal Gadot in the title role and Patty Jenkins directing. However the Wonder Woman character will make her feature debut in next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, starring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavil.

Pine will next be seen in Netflix comedy, Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp and Craig Zobel’s upcoming sci-fi drama Z for Zachariah. The actor has also just wrapped filming on Disney’s The Finest Hours and is currently working on the latest instalment of the Star Trek franchise, Star Trek: Beyond.
