British actor Chris Langham was so traumatised after his conviction for child pornography offences he contemplated suicide. The disgraced comedy star even sought out a hosepipe to connect to his car exhaust - but was interrupted by a telephone call from a near suicidal man he had met in Alcoholics Anonymous. Langham, 58, explains, "He said, 'I'm thinking of killing myself, can you give me any reason why I shouldn't?' I started telling him why I thought it would be a bad idea and heard myself talk myself out of it." The actor has admitted that accessing child abuse images was "completely wrong" but denies he is a paedophile, insisting he only looked at the images as research for his writing. He adds, "I couldn't bear it (the images) - I found them too upsetting and distasteful." Langham was found guilty in August (07) on all 15 counts of making indecent images of a child, following the police discovery of explicit films on his home computer. He was sentenced to 10 months behind bars but was freed last week (14Nov07) after a judge at the London Court of Appeal reduced his sentence to six months. They also took into account the 43 days he had spent in custody prior to his conviction.
