The Top Gear presenting line-up - it’s had more drama than the cobbles of Corrie and the square of Eastenders. Since Jeremy Clarkson had his contract ended with the BBC One show after a fracas with a producer, there’s been rumours (Jodie Kidd), possibilities (Jensen Button) and definite nos (Sue Perkins, who had to quit Twitter after the trolls told her they didn’t want to see her on the show).

Now Chris Evans, the one constant since the trio of Clarkson, May and Hammond left, has revealed that the newest line-up has been picked and there will be “announcements pending”.

Fresh new faces have been chosen from public auditioning and the show is due to start filming next Wednesday.

Evans told Radio 1 Breakfast Show DJ Nick Grimshaw: "Some people may have done a bit of tell, but they are from these auditions." He added that every tape was considered.

The new Top Gear line-up will reach living rooms in May; however, it will come in to direct competition with a new motoring show fronted by the oldies – Clarkson, May and Hammond.

They have signed up with Amazon Prime for a series after striking a multi-million pound deal with the streaming service.

Filming began earlier this month but a title has yet to be revealed.
