Can anyone knock Captain America off the US box office top spot?
It seems there really is no defeating Captain America, as The Winter Solider has topped the US box office again for the third straight week, what's more the movie has now passed the $200million box office mark. Not fairing so well over the Easter holiday however was Johnny Depp, who is suffering another box office flop as Transcendence only managed to enter in 4th place.

This week, Captain America: The Winter Solider took on the star power of Johnny Depp whose new movie Transcendence opened to negative reviews. According to studio estimates, The Winter Solider took around $26 million at the box office, whilst Depp’s offering only managed $11 million, coming in on fourth place. Sadly for Depp, Transcendence marks his third box office flop in a row after The Lone Ranger and Dark Shadows.
Also debuting this week was religious flick Heaven is For Real starring Greg Kinnear. It took the third spot brining in $21.5 million in its opening weekend. Holding on to second place was Rio 2 which took $22.5 million. The animated sequel features the voice talents of Jamie Foxx, Kristin Chenoweth and Jesse Eisenberg, as well as Bruno Mars playing a blue macaw.
Johnny Depp looks glum after seeing Transcendence's box office figures
Captain America: The Winter Solider is already proving to be a massive success for Marvel. After holding on to the number one spot over the holiday weekend, The Winter Solider’s earnings have now passed the massive $200million earnings mark. This puts it way ahead of the 2011 prequel Captain America: The First Avenger, who ended it’s box office run by taking $176.65 million domestically.
Along with surpassing its predecessor, The Winter Soldier also set a box-office record as the biggest ever April release, after taking more than $96 million domestically. But perhaps Captain America's biggest box office test will come in two weeks time when the Amazing Spider-Man 2 finally gets its US release.
