Over 50 media outlets from all over the world have applied to cover the Chris Brown assault trial which starts in Los Angeles on Monday afternoon (22Jun09).
That's more than those who officially covered the recent court appearances of celebrities Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan, and the murder trials of Robert Blake and Phil Spector.
Los Angeles Superior Court spokesman Allan Parachini tells the Los Angeles Times, "I've never seen this kind of interest, and I've been here seven years."
Brown faces two felony counts of assault and making criminal threats stemming from his alleged fight with Rihanna on the eve of the Grammy Awards in February (09). If convicted, he faces up to five years behind bars.
Rihanna, who was left bloodied and bruised after the alleged encounter, has been subpoenaed and will give evidence at today's hearing.
