Rapper Chief Keef has been released from jail after serving 60 days behind bars for violating his probation.

The hip-hop star was sentenced to two months in a juvenile detention centre in January (13) after illegally firing a weapon during a video interview at a New York gun range last year (12). The incident was a violation of the the terms of his probation on a 2011 firearms conviction.

On Thursday (14Mar13) Keef, real name Keith Cozart, walked free from the Cook County Juvenile Justice Center in his native Illinois and greeted nearly two dozen friends and family members waiting outside.

The 17 year old's probation was also terminated by Judge Carl Anthony Walker, and the star's lawyer, Dennis Berkson, tells the Chicago Tribune, "He's done. He's free to move on with his career."
