Nile Rodgers has been named a BBC Music Day Ambassador.
The Chic singer, whose hits like Le Freak and Everybody Dance remain dance floor classics, is a huge advocate of the power of music, with his new signing further showing that.
The 63-year-old will head to the U.K. to attend BBC’s Music Day at the Eden Project on 3 June (16), joining fellow ambassadors Duran Duran.
“Music takes you to a place you go during the experience of it, and then after you experience it you are different. I'm proud to be a BBC Music Ambassador, to try and help a few someones to become different,” he told the BBC.

Nile Rodgers' Belief That The 1983 David Bowie Album He Produced Is Cursed Has Been Reaffirmed In The Wake Of Legendary Singer's Death.
The Rebel Rebel singer passed away earlier this month (Jan16), after secretly fighting an 18-month battle with cancer. Chic singer Nile is just one of David's A-list friends who has shared their grief, but he's also thinking about the passing in another context.
"In my autobiography I talk about the curse of Let's Dance," Nile told Britain's The Metro newspaper of the '80s record.
Musicians who worked on the album Tony Thompson, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Chic co-lead Bernard Edwards have all died too.

Nile Rodgers Is Taking His Freak Out Let's Dance Music Festival To London For The First Time In June (16).
The Chic star launched the event, also known as FOLD, in Long Island, New York in 2015 with acts including Pharrell Williams, Keith Urban, and Duran Duran.
He is now bringing the festival across the pond to the British capital for a three-day music extravaganza at Fulham Palace from 24 to 26 June (16). Chic will perform across all three nights with headline acts Alison Moyet, John Newman, and Angie Stone.
"I started it in Montreaux, Switzerland and I did 11 hours of continuous music," Nile tells the London Evening Standard. "They told me that it couldn't be done. I had Alison Moyet, Grace Jones, Mark Ronson, Johnny Marr... it was insane... Quincy Jones sat on that stage with me for six hours straight. He couldn't believe it, he just kept saying 'Nile! How can you do this?'"

Nile Rodgers Is Adamant He Could Have Supported David Bowie Through His Battle With Cancer If The Music Legend Had Told Him About His Health Problems.
The Chic star worked with Bowie on his 1982 album Let's Dance, producing hits such as Modern Love and China Girl, and he was left devastated when he heard the Starman rocker had passed away on Sunday (10Jan16), 18 months after being diagnosed with cancer.
David kept his health crisis a secret, but Nile, who previously won a battle with prostate cancer, is convinced he could have supported his old friend if he had known.
"Because I've had my own fight with cancer for five years now, and even if I had a scintilla of a clue, I'd be there for him in a minute. The best advice my friends who've gone through cancer have given me is this wonderful support mechanism," he tells Billboard.com.
