Pop star Chesney Hawkes has been forced to hang up his skates and drop out of British TV ice skating contest Dancing On Ice after severely spraining his ankle and fracturing his calf bone during practice.
The singer was due to compete against former child star Corey Feldman, Dallas icon Charlene Tilton and Sugababes singer Heidi Range on the show, but his physio has told him he will no longer be able to take part in the series, which launches this weekend (07-08Jan12).
A statement from the One & Only singer reads, "I am gutted not to be taking part in Dancing on Ice. I was having a brilliant time and couldn't wait to finally be skating live on national TV.
"It wasn't even a spectacular fall, it was a slight stumble as I practised with my skating partner. I think my children are the most disappointed; they were so excited at the prospect of watching me skate.
"I'm determined to be back on the ice, I might not be able to appear in this series but I am hoping I will be able to appear in the show next year."
Former British The X Factor contestant Chico has been lined up to take Hawkes' place in the show.
