Nine Lives Trailer

Tom Brand has always been a workaholic and his company is in the fanal stages of one of their biggest projects to date. As with a lot of people who have high flying careers, Tom's family have taken somewhat of a backseat in his life. Particularly his wife Lara and 10 year old daughter Rebecca.

Living in a luxury city apartment, Tom isn't often found with his family but as it's Rebecca's birthday, he knows that he can't miss it. With no gift to give his daughter and knowing that he's spent such little time with her recently, Tom decides to stop off and get her a gift that's sure to make her happy - something she's asked for for years. A cat.

The store where Tom picks up the cat (called Mr. Fuzzypants) is run by an eccentric man called Felix Perkins and as soon as Mr Perkins and the newest member of the Brand family become part of Tom's life, odd things start to happen. Soon Tom's life is turned upside down and he's experiencing family life in a way that he - nor anyone else - has ever experienced before.

The Ugly Truth Review

Weak
It may be the nature of romantic comedies to be predictable, but this movie never departs from the formula at all. And while the cast is watchable, the film simply has nothing original to say.

Abby (Heigl) is a frazzled breakfast TV producer in Northern California, annoyed when the brutish Mike (Butler) is hired to present a male perspective on her show alongside smiling/strained hosts Larry and Georgia (Higgins and Hines). Mike's theory that men are only interested in looks enrages Abby, who is trying to woo a handsome, successful guy (Winter). Even though she's a complete control freak, she agrees to let Mike help her get her man.

Fortunately, the cast is charming and sometimes even funny. Heigl and Butler could do these roles in their sleep, oozing sass while cutely prickling against each other. Both of them are endearing, in a simplistic sort of way, throwing out witty one-liners and indulging in corny banter that implies the chemistry that is completely absent from the film. Much more fun are Higgins and Hines in small scene-stealing roles that are full of eye-rolling innuendo.

For a film about a strong woman, Abby is awfully needy and desperate. All she can think about is finding the perfect man, and we seem to be the only ones who realise that Mike is the only man the script has in mind for her. Meanwhile, for all his macho posturing and chauvinist comments, he's actually a sensitive soul who understands how men and woman connect. In other words, for all of its bluster, the film isn't remotely as edgy as it pretends to be.

All of the script's male-female sparring uses stereotypes and contrived situations to push the romance forward, from the Cyrano-like coaching to the unsophisticated (and unoriginal) vibrator gag. There are no subplots and no subtext at all. Even the sexuality is simplistic: it's just puritanical sniggering. And by the time the film finally addresses something resonant, wondering who could actually love a control freak, the contrived story and shallow approach leave us cold. But since this is a rom-com with likeable stars, that doesn't really matter.

Bart Got A Room Review

Excellent
High school coming-of-age films have recently been overflowing movie screens like stuffed toilets. They can be hard-edged and true like Adventureland. Or raunchy yet soft and fuzzy like Superbad. Or they can be totally wacky, as is the case with Brian Hecker's Bart Got a Room.

Hecker's rite-of-passage romp, about a high school senior and resident twerp who strings out getting a prom date until the last second, takes place in an over-baked retirement community in Florida where the youngsters look like sprites among the old-folks majority. Hecker's take on the plastic, ready-to-go community is a nutty cartoonish style, taking its influence from Frank Tashlin -- a place of consumer detritus baking, along with the residents, in the bright light of the leisure world.

Space Chimps Review

Bad
There are many concepts that work wonderfully in theory: communism, nuclear energy, monkeys in outer space. Sadly, just like their theoretical counterparts, very few successful practical examples exist. With a title like Space Chimps, one assumes a genial farce in which accident prone apes -- opposable thumbs and all -- cause chaos within a high tech setting. Instead, Quest for Camelot scribe Kirk De Micco (here co-writing and directing) decides to go the big screen blockbuster route. We want simian hijinks. Instead, we're offered staid adventure with messages about courage, self-esteem, and living up to your potential. Boo!

When an expensive space probe goes missing, a surly Senator (voice of Stanley Tucci) with a key to NASA's funding wants it found. It's decided that, instead of a manned mission, a trio of chimps will be sent to fetch it. They include the macho Titan (Patrick Warburton), the level headed Luna (Cheryl Hines), and in a perfect PR move, the great grandson of the first ape-stronaut ever, Ham III (Andy Samberg). One wormhole later, our hirsute heroes find themselves on a distant alien planet ruled by the evil dictator Zartog (Jeff Daniels). He is using the lost Earth satellite to control his unhappy minions. It's up to the primates to find a way of defeating the villain and getting back home before it's too late.

Keeping Up With The Steins Review

Bad
Garry Marshall as a free-spirited, Jewish hippie grandpa is funny. Garry Marshall's son, first-time director Scott Marshall, is not. Nor is his handling of a film just dying to be My Big Fat Jewish Bar Mitzvah (it even says so on the back of the DVD box), which just doesn't have the easy charm or lovable story to make that happen.

The planning and celebration of a bar mitzvah has wonderful comic potential. Family dysfunctions. Awkward pre-teen kids. All the meshuga ethnic eccentricities. What a shame to miss the mark on nearly all of it. The younger Marshall goes keeps it saccharine-light, and ends up with a stiff would-be comedy filled with talented stars and very few laughs.

R.V. Review

OK
Bob Munro (Robin Williams) has reached a difficult intersection on the road of life. Once, he played hero to his daughter Cassie (Joanna "JoJo" Levesque). Now she's an iPod-sporting, disgruntled teenager who'd rather hang with Osama bin Laden than dear old dad. Bob seeks support from wife Jamie (Cheryl Hines) and son Carl (Josh Hutcherson), though his efforts are met by blank stares.

Bob's work situation isn't much better. As the former golden employee inches closer to retirement, he's forced to look over his shoulder at the younger, hungrier competition eager to please a selfish, credit-hogging boss (Will Arnett). Bob seeks support from his coworkers, and finds those familiar blank stares.
