Cheryl Cole could make a spectacular return to the United States after it emerged that American Idol bosses had reached out to the Girls Aloud singer about a possible judging spot. Representatives for the hit show made contact with Cole on Monday (May 21, 2012) to determine whether she would be interested in replacing Jennifer Lopez, reports the New York Post.
The two women actually appear together in new movie 'What to Expect When You're Expecting', but it's been reported that Lopez is ready to call time on her $22 million contract. One source suggested that, should Lopez remain as a judge, Cheryl would still be sought to join the panel, saying, "It will be interesting to see how Jennifer deals with another beautiful woman sitting alongside her". Filming on the new series of the singing contest begins in late August, and bosses are said to be attracted to the idea of having Cole represent a new direction for the programme. The insider also claimed Cole would command nowhere near the $22 million salary that Lopez takes home, adding, "She's more in the Demi Lovato range - $5 million to $10 million"
Cheryl famously appeared as a judge on Simon Cowell's X Factor Usa show, though was sensationally axed after just a couple of weeks. It appears the only potential stumbling block for a move to American Idol would be Cole's forthcoming reunion with Girls Aloud.
