Chely Wright, the American country musician, has announced that she is engaged to her girlfriend LAUREN BLITZER, reports US Weekly Magazine. 40-year-old Chely met the civil rights activist when they were both volunteering for charity work.
Chely Wright, best known for her hit single 'Shut Up and Drive', plans to marry Blitzer in Connecticut this summer, according to her representative. Earlier this week, Blitzer tweeted a message to Wright that simply read, "You are the most beautiful women I have ever met". The engagement comes less than a year after the singer revealed she was gay. For years she kept her sexuality a secret, fearing rejection from the country music community. During an interview on the 'Today' show last year, Wright recalled how she lied to fellow country musician John Rich about her sexuality. She revealed how Rich had said, "Hey, you've got to hit this gay thing head on, you're not gay are you? If you are, people won't have it. It's sick, it's deviant; it's unacceptable to country music fans", Wright said she told the musician she was straight, adding, "I lied, and I knew I had gone from not talking about it to, now I'm a liar".
As well as being a best-selling country musician, Chely Wright is also an award winning songwriter, having penned hits for the likes of Brad Paisley, RICHARD MARX, Indigo Girls and CLAY WALKER.
