Veteran actress Charlotte Rampling has landed a leading Tv role in the second series of U.K. hit Broadchurch.
The Swimming Pool star will play a "pivotal" part in the follow-up to Chris Chibnall's 2013 crime mystery series, about the murder of a schoolboy in an English coastal town.
No further details of her character has been announced, but Chibnall admits he is thrilled to have such a revered actress on board.
He says, "Charlotte Rampling! We've been keeping this secret for months, it's been agony! We have another big story to tell this year, and that meant finding exceptional actors for new roles. There's none more exceptional than Charlotte: to be writing for her is a dream come true. As you can imagine, Charlotte's character is an integral part of our new story - but that's where we're drawing a veil, for now..."
David Tennant and Olivia Colman will reprise their detective roles for the second season of the show, which is currently being adapted for the U.S.
Rampling has mainly focused on film work throughout her career, but received acclaim for her guest appearance as Dr. Evelyn Vogel in the final season of U.S. crime show Dexter last year (13).
