The 'Geordie Shore' star's dreams of an American TV career now lie in tatters.
Reality TV star Charlotte Crosby has been banned from driving for a period of three years, after she admitted the charge of a second drink-driving offence.
Sunderland-born Crosby, 25, is a former cast member of the MTV reality series ‘Geordie Shore’ and also won the 2013 series of ‘Celebrity Big Brother’, and had been planning a TV career in the United States before this ban, which has effectively ended that prospect as she will not now be granted a visa.
Charlotte Crosby, star of all 11 series of 'Geordie Shore', was banned from driving for a second time
Magistrates in Newcastle heard how Crosby had been stopped by police in the early hours of January 28th in the city centre, after her Range Rover had been noted driving erratically down the road. She was promptly breathalysed by the arresting officers, who discovered 80 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - over twice the legal limit (35mcg).
Magistrates heard how the model and fitness expert had been drinking on a train travelling from London to Tyneside that evening.
Representing Crosby in court, solicitor Nick Freeman said that she had decided to make the short trip from the railway station to her hotel despite having initially planned on getting a taxi.
Banning her for a second time, on this occasion for three years, the chairman of the bench Keith McIntosh said it “beggared belief” that Crosby seemed not to have learned her lesson the first time around. In 2012, she had been convicted of the same offence and banned for 18 months.
“We take drink-driving offences very seriously in this court, even more so when it's not the first offence,” McIntosh said, also ordering her to pay £1,185 in damages and costs.
“She accepts that she is the author of her misfortune and is bitterly ashamed, contrite and embarrassed,” her solicitor had argued, saying that his client had been close to landing a TV career in America but “that will not now happen as she will not get a visa.”
