There are ways of saying no to doing something, then there are ways Charlotte Church says no to doing something. Her way involves violent imagery. We prefer her way. Check out how she said no to doing The X-Factor.

“I got asked to do The X Factor job. I’d rather poke my eyes out with sticks than be a part of the machine that kills music,” she told Wales Online. “I had a meeting to ask about the level of involvement in the creative process I could have, and they basically said none unless it was in line with what was required.”

The X-Factor want people like Church – outspoken and confident – to create controversy and re-watchable online clips by reacting to talent in their own extravagant ways, but they haven’t managed to find the right person since Simon Cowell left to pursue his ventures in America.

“I wanted to see just how hard line it was. I found my answer and politely declined,” she added, although we’d love to see a transcript of what happened in the meeting, as that last bit seems like something of a white lie: ‘politely declined’.

It’s not just The X-Factor, though; Church isn’t really interested in any sort of judging role, unless it meets her lists of requirements. “Not unless it was a really great show which wasn’t built on commercial viability and b******* emotional reality stories, which make people vote and make all of the rich men more money,” she said.

Church's new EP, THREE, is to be released on August 19.
