Charlie Sheen's TV mum Holland Taylor has reached out to her troubled TWO AND A HALF MEN co-star following his recent return to rehab, insisting she understands the actor's addiction issues as her own father was an alcoholic.
Sheen checked into rehab last week (ends28Jan11) shortly after he was hospitalised to treat a hernia.
Reports initially suggested he will stay at a clinic for three months, but Sheen's representative has now confirmed the star will undergo treatment at home in Los Angeles.
Production on hit TV show Two and A Half Men has been put on hold so Sheen can get clean, but Taylor - who plays the actor's onscreen mother in the series - insists she can empathise with Sheen as she saw how hard it was for her father to beat booze.
She tells E! Online, "Charlie is a brilliant, talented and lovable man, as was my father, who also was an alcoholic. So I have the greatest respect for the terrific struggle any addiction is, and my heart goes out to Charlie and his family.
"I know that people can try rehab more than once... and that does not represent a failure. The courage to try again is what means something. There is sometimes no telling what might be the very thing to usher a person towards acceptance and recovery. I am very hopeful for Charlie, and send him my love and encouragement, as I always would."
