Guy Ritchie Wasn't Initially Keen To Cast Charlie Hunnam

Charlie Hunnam Guy Ritchie

When he began the casting process for his new film King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, director Guy Ritchie had a long list of candidates. But Charlie Hunnam wasn't one of them. Meanwhile, Hunnam heard about the project. "I promptly threw my name in the hat," he says, "and Guy threw it back out!" Undaunted, Hunnam took action. "I jumped on a plane and showed up on his doorstep and said, 'Let's have a cup of tea,'" he laughs. "By the end of that cup of tea, I think he decided he quite liked me, so he let me audition and I finally got the job."

His determination to pursue the role was rooted in his childhood. "I had grown up with the Arthurian legends," Hunnam says. "At the point in my life where I wanted to become an actor, John Boorman's movie Excalibur was one of the films that I found myself watching over and over again. It was a film that I really studied. It captured my imagination. I'm talking about very young - six, seven, eight, when you realise that there is more than just watching the story play out, that there is an actual process behind it."

Charlie Hunnam's Odd On Set Relationship With Robert Pattinson

Charlie Hunnam Robert Pattinson

Having recently completed filming on 'The Lost City Of Z' with co-stars Sienna Miller, Robert Pattinson and Tom Holland, Charlie Hunnam has opened up about the way he and his fellow actors worked on the movie's set. Though his relationship with Miller seems the standard type of kinship actors share when they're working together, his time with Pattinson (and to some extent, Holland) was a little stranger.

He said: "I had a couple of rehearsal sessions with Sienna, but I didn't spend any time with Tom or Robert. I wanted these relationships to evolve naturally on screen. Through the work, I don't think I said more than ten words to Robert [Pattinson] off camera.

The Lost City Of Z Review

Good

Based on a true story, it's the historical aspect of these events that holds the attention, even though the filmmakers kind of let the drama slip through their fingers. It's an impressively designed film, with vivid characters and some rather amazing situations. But the script's structure is too fragmented to build the story's momentum.

It opens in 1906 London, where Percy Fawcett (Charlie Hunnam) is assigned to accompany a geographical expedition to the jungles on the border of Bolivia and Brazil. While there accompanied by the intrepid Costin (Robert Pattinson), he discovers signs of a massive ancient city, which he names Z, the ultimate human achievement. Back in England, he reacquaints himself with his fiercely independent wife Nina (Sienna Miller) and plans a return trip with Costin and wealthy benefactor Murray (Angus Macfadyen) to find this lost pre-European civilisation. But Murray causes so many problems that they return empty-handed. The outbreak of the Great War delays Percy from going back to South America, so he heads off to the front to fight. Later, he organises a final expedition to find Z, accompanied by his now-adult son Jack (Tom Holland).

The screenplay has simplified Percy's attempts to find Z (he actually travelled to Brazil around 10 times). But the three trips depicted here begin to feel oddly repetitive, broken up by scenes of impatient domesticity in Britain. All of these sequences are sharply well shot and played, but the overall impact is lessened by all of the travelling back and forth. And many of the long sequences back in Europe feel like asides to the main story of Percy's all-consuming obsession with finding this ancient city, which we now know exists. Hunnam is terrific in the role, with his cut-glass accent and stiff upper lip even in the face of impending doom. He's likeable and passionate, and his scenes with the superb Miller sparkle. Patterson and Macfadyen add some texture as loyal and obnoxious colleagues, respectively. And Holland's quiet charisma very nearly steals the show.

The Lost City Of Z Trailer and Clip Trailer

Colonel Percy Fawcett is an ambitious British explorer who, come 1925, plans to take a long trip into the Amazon rainforest to uncover an ancient lost civilisation that he names 'Z'. He expects to find ruins and treasure, possibly even remnants from the legendary El Dorado, but it seems an impossible task to get the backing of the respected scientists of the day who can't possibly conceive that a civilisation perhaps more advanced than our own could exist amongst the native tribes they perceive as savages. His wife seems to be the only one who supports his mission, as well as his son Jack and another friend who agree to accompany him on the voyage. Unfortunately, this will be the trio's last trip, as they are subsequently never seen in England again.

In 1925, a British explorer named Colonel Percy Fawcett disappeared in the Amazon rainforest with his son Jack and one of Jack's friends. He was on the search for an ancient lost city he dubbed 'Z', rumoured to hold never before noted ruins and possibly the remains of El Dorado. He was also on the way to discover to another location in the Mato Grosso region of Brazil, which was talked of in an old manuscript he found at a library in Rio de Janeiro. However, whether or not his journey was completed remains unknown, because neither he not his companions returned from the expedition. To this day, his death remains a mystery. Many have claimed that he was killed by tribal natives in the region, others that they died after falling ill, and one story even claims he spent the rest of his days as the leader of a tribe of cannibals.

The Sons of Anarchy season six finale was some showstopper. Completely at odds with the subtle beauty of Breaking Bad's wrap-up episode, the FX drama went the whole hog and we had a drowning, a stabbing and two rather bloody deaths. SPOILERS AHEAD. Obviously.

Universal Announces Postponed Release Date For "Fifty Shades" Film

E.L. James Dakota Johnson Jamie Dornan Charlie Hunnam

In a new twist, the constant bumps in the road for the Fifty Shades of Grey project may have resulted in the release date being postponed for 2015. Reuters reports that Universal Pictures made the announcement on Wednesday. The original release date – August 1, 2014, has been pushed back for February 13 the following year – just in time for Valentine’s day.

Universal made no comment on the reason for the postponed release date, but it may be related to Charlie Hunnam, who was cast to portray protagonist Christian Grey, pulling out of the project on October 13 this year. Hunnam was quickly replaced, however, when Irish actor Jamie Dornan signed on to star alongside Dakota Johnson on October 24. This means that casting problems are probably not the cause of the delay after all.

The film is slated to begin shooting in December. It will be distributed by Universal Pictures' Focus Features. Despite the 50 Shades trilogy having been panned by many critics, the book became the fastest selling paperback of all time in Britain. It remains to be seen whether the adaptation will achieve similar success. The 2015 release date means that it is possible for the film to lose a lot of the built-in buzz from the book release.

'50 Shades Of Grey' Casts Jamie Dornan As Christian Grey, Right Decision?

Jamie Dornan Charlie Hunnam Dakota Johnson

Jamie Dornan is officially the new Christian Grey in the 50 Shades of Grey movie. The actor was revealed as the successor to Charlie Hunnam, who left the 50 Shades of Grey project amidst reports that he had gotten cold feet due to the immense pressure and exposure of the role, late on Wednesday, 23 October, via a report from The Hollywood Reporter.

Jamie Dornan will hopefully be a more popular appointment that Hunnam

The 31-year-old Once Upon A Time actor beat off a host of competing actors all vying for the high-profile role, and was chosen over a host of favorites for the role, including Matt Bomer and Alexander Skarsgard. With Dornan's casting, the film can once again begin to pick up steam and finally begin filming, following weeks of frantic searching for a new Grey. With the appointment, the film may still be finished in time to reach the scheduled 1 August, 2014 release date.

Charlie Hunnam Finally Responds To '50 Shades Of Grey' Departure

Charlie Hunnam

Charlie Hunnam went from a relatively private actor in a television series to becoming the center of a media frenzy in a very short period of time.

The British star received a large amount of negative responses when he agreed to play the lead male role in the film adaptation of '50 Shades of Grey', and it proved to be too much to handle as he dropped out of the upcoming project.

Now the search is on for his 'Christian Grey' replacement and Hunnam has finally broken his silence on the sudden departure at a charity event for the 'One Heart Source' organisation in Burbank, California, with his 'Sons of Anarchy' co-stars on Saturday (Oct 19th).

Charlie Hunnam Heading Back To England After 'Fifty Shades' Nightmare

Charlie Hunnam

Charlie Hunnam has spoken publicaly for the first time since dropping out of the Fifty Shades of Grey movie - apparently because of a dispute over the script. The Sons of Anarchy star walked away from Sam Taylor-Johnson's movie just two weeks before filming was set to go ahead in Vancouver, though he appears to have no regrets.

Speaking at an evening benefitting the One Heart Source Education Programs in Africa at Mo's Restaurant in California, Hunnam told E! News, "I am doing good. I am just really concentrating on work. It's been a really busy time.I have had some family stuff going on so just trying to stay focused and stay positive and keep trying to do a good job at work and be with my family and stay positive."

Hunnam's father Charlie passed away in May this year and the Pacific Rim actor is keen to return to his homeland.

Charlie Hunnam is out! The actor sensationally left behind his role as Christian Grey in the upcoming FiftyShades of Grey movie adaptation following varied reports stating his schedule was too packed up already and that he had gotten cold feet over the immense pressure of the role. Now the race is one to find another Christian Grey and the shortlist of potential candidates seems to keep on growing.

Matt Bomer (L) is the bookie's favourite, but Alexander Skarsgard is still heavily rumoured with the role

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Alexander Skarsgard is among the favorites to succeed Hunnam, with his steamy scenes in True Blood and his obvious sex appeal boding well with producers. The same report also states that Northern Irish actor Jamie Dornan is also in line to take on the job, however neither of these rumors have been confirmed yet. THR have also reported that Oscar-nominated screenwriter Patrick Marber (Notes on a Scandal) has been brought in to adjust the script to accomodate another actor.

Could Dakota Johnson Be Heading For A '50 Shades' Exit Too?

Dakota Johnson Charlie Hunnam E.L. James

Dakota Johnson is feeling apprehensive about her part on the upcoming movie adaptation of EL James' 50 Shades of Grey. Like her former co-star Charlie Hunnam, the immense pressure that comes with the coveted role is proving to be a heavy weight to bear, one that she is finding increasingly difficult to keep balance with.

Last week, the 50 Shades of Grey movie was delivered a major blow when lead actor Hunnam dropped out of the project. His reasons for leaving were initially said to be because of his overwhelming work load, however ater reports stated that his exit was more to do with the sheer pressure that came with the job and the limelight that seemed to follow him everywhere since his part in the project was confirmed. Now reports are suggesting that Johnson too could be on the way out.

"Dakota is having a very hard time dealing with all the press," a source close to the actress told E! News. "When she first got the role, it was way too much for her."

E.L. James Wishes Charlie Hunnam "All The Best" After He Leaves 'Fifty Shades Of Grey'

Charlie Hunnam

Charlie Hunnam may have left his role as Christian Grey in the upcoming movie adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey, yet author E.L. James is not harbouring any resentment. The author of the bestselling trilogy took to Twitter on Saturday (14th October) when she wrote "I wish Charlie all the best."

Charlie Hunnam has dropped out of Fifty Shades of Grey.

Universal Pictures, the studio responsible for the Fifty Shades movie, released a statement announcing Hunnam's decision to step down from the male lead. It seems Hunnam's television appearances (on Sons of Anarchy) would prevent him from thoroughly committing to the project. The statement read, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, "The filmmakers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam's immersive TV schedule, which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey."

Did Charlie Hunnam Simply Realise The Fifty Shades Movie Will Probably Be Rubbish?

Charlie Hunnam E.L. James

There are a lot of theories abounding regarding Charlie Hunnam’s abrupt Fifty Shades movie exit. The official line is: he can’t find the time in his schedule to properly prepare for the role. The unofficial one is: the angry fans intimidated him and he jumped ship.

Charlie HunnamCharlie Hunnam in a big fat motorbike

We’ve got a sneaky suspicion that neither of the aforementioned ‘reasons’ are true, and that Hunnam – who can’t claim to be attached to many critically acclaimed projects – realised just how bad the movie version of the steamy book will be, and decided it wasn’t for him.

Charlie Hunnam Drops Out Of 'Fifty Shades Of Grey' Role, But How Come?

Charlie Hunnam Dakota Johnson Ian Somerhalder Matt Bomer

After things were looking so promising and as though they were finally ready to get off the ground, the Fifty Shades of Grey movie has hit yet another stumbling block. Charlie Hunnam, the man signed on for the lead role as Christian Grey, has officially dropped out of the project, leaving the film's makers with the task of finding yet another Grey.

Citing an "immersive" schedule ahead of him as the reason he dropped out of the project, his own excuse has since been followed by others claiming he had ulterior motives to leave the book adaptation behind. When his decision to leave the project was made clear on Saturday, 12 October, through a statement from Universal, it cited "Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule," as the sole reason for his exit, "which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey."

However, since then there have been other explanations as to why Hunnam chose to drop out of the project. According to E! News, the role of Christian Grey would bring with it more and more media attention and Hunnam was already becoming overwhelmed with the attention the role brought him. It isn't the role of the S&M-obsessed Grey that has put him off of the role, just the constant media and fan frenzy that surrounds it and for this reason he chose to give up the coveted role. The attention and the pressure was intense," the source explained.

So far the 50 Shades of Grey project has brought 50 shades of trouble with Universal, first with casting difficulties and now with Charlie Hunnam exiting the project. The initial statement by Universal read: The filmmakers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.”

Charlie Hunnam, Sons of Anarchy Filming

Dakota Johnson Charlie Hunnam

The Fifty Shades of Grey cast list keeps on growing, and the latest actor to be assigned a role in the anticipated adaptation of the erotic novel is Jennifer Ehle. The actress will appear as Anastasia Steele's mother, a passing role in the novels but one that is expected to become much more prominent in the film due to Elhe's appointment.

As confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, Ehle is the third name to be attached to the movie project, after Dakota Johnson was cast as Anastasia Steele and Charlie Hunnam was given the role of the BDSM-obsessed billionaire Christian Grey. Her appointment also adds further weight to the project, which had begun to look as though it was destined to fail before filming had even begun as producers at Universal and Focus Features struggled to find a cast and crew when the rights to the book were initially purchased.

Things are running much smoothly now, and with Sam Taylor-Wood signed on to direct and Kelly Marcel having reportedly finished the screenplay for the film, work on the project is due to begin before the end of 2013. The film is being produced by Michael De Luca, Dana Brunetti and the novel's author EL James.

Sons Of Anarchy Season 6 Premiere Sees Highest Ratings Ever

Charlie Hunnam

FX's 'Sons of Anarchy' premiered its 6th season on Tuesday night (September 10, 2013) to the highest ratings the show has ever received. The special 90 minute episode saw 5.9 million viewers according to Nielsen, tune in to see the motor-cycle gang's controversial opening episode.

The premiere episode included two rape scenes, a death by drowning and an alarmingly terrifying school shooting scene, the motor-cycle gang has clearly expanded their violent capabilities to heights that Sons of Anarchy fans are not used to.

James Poniewozik of Time Entertainment discusses the brutal season opener, "Here, both the rape-porn storyline and the school shooting underscore the idea, repeated in Sons, that once you start crossing moral lines, you can't control the repercussions, even when you tell yourself that there are worse bad guys than you". From this, the viewers can take some comfort as it seems the consequences of their actions will be severe enough to justify the depiction of a school shooting.

If the prospects of having to get his kit off many times on screen as well as learn how to deftly wield whips and paddles may have flustered Charlie Hunnam, the actor who'll play Fifty Shades of Grey's Christian Grey, then the news that over 75,000 furious 50 Shades readers had taken their discontentment towards him playing the lead male role to Change.org to demand a casting reshuffle, should by rights make him feel practically terrified.

Charlie Hunnam
Charlie Hunnam Is Confident In His Acting Ability & Interaction With Dakota.

However, it seems that the 33 year-old English actor could not be more confident in his skills, and quite probably takes all the petitioning and hate tweeting as a challenge to be the best Grey possible. Describing his experience of the hotly anticipated adaptation of EL James' erotic trilogy so far as "exciting and fun and weird and compelling," there's little sense of fear or trepidation in Hunnam's words as he talks to Hollywood Life.

Charlie Hunnam Finally Speaks Out Following '50 Shades...' Casting

Charlie Hunnam Dakota Johnson Sam Taylor-Wood E.L. James

Charlie Hunnam has at last broken his silence and spoken in public for the first time about his appointment as Christian Grey in the hotly-anticipated 50 Shades of Grey movie adaption. Since he was announced as the star of the film version of E.L. James' smutty text, both he and co-star Dakota Johnson have received little backing from fans of the book, who question the credentials of the two stars.

Charlie Hunnam
Charlie Hunnam is ready for to take on Christian Grey and the naysayers

The star of Sons of Anarchy was speaking with The Hollywood Reporter at the premiere of the newest season of the hit biker series and seemed totally unfazed by the heaps of criticism sent his way by fams, before he's even had a chance to film a single scene for the movie. Arguing his case, Hunnam claims that both he and Johnson exuded chemistry during the initial readings for the film and said that his work on the British series Queer As Folk has prepared him for the explicit scenes he will be performing in the film.

Charlie Hunnam On "Fifty Shades," "Queer As Folk" And On-Screen Chemistry

Charlie Hunnam Dakota Johnson E.L. James

Some fans of Fifty Shades of Grey might disagree, but it does seem like Sons of Anarchy’s Charlie Hunnam is the perfect choice to play the racy role of Christian Grey – in that he’s willing to do it, at least.

The film’s director Sam Taylor-Johnson still hasn’t revealed how much of the sexual content of E. L. James’ novel will make it on screen, but it’s likely to be quite a lot, considering that sexual scenes make up most of the trilogy.

This might also be part of the reason why several actors and actresses turned down the lead roles before Hunnam and co-star Dakota Johnson agreed.

Nothing Can Stop "Excited" Charlie Hunnam From Starring In "Fifty Shades"

Charlie Hunnam Dakota Johnson Sam Taylor-Wood

Fifty Shades of Grey readers might not be all that happy about the casting of Dakota Johnson and Charlie Hunnam for the lead parts in the film, but the actors themselves couldn’t be more thrilled. Hunnam shared some of his excitement in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter and explained why the role of billionaire Christian Grey, which several actors had reportedly turned down before he was approached, wasn’t enough to make him nervous. Like the source material, E. L. James’s Fifty Shades series, the film will feature a number of very explicit sexual scenes. However, Hunnam, who acted in the Channel 4 miniseries Queer as Folk during his teenage years, is no stranger to the idea. He explained for THR.

Fans are revolting against Hunnam's casting.

"My first job was on a Channel 4 miniseries called Queer as Folk. It was incredibly explicit sexual scenes with a man," Hunnam said. "I mean I'm 16 and 17 years wiser now. So if I could do it when I was 18 with a guy, I can certainly do it at 33 with a lady."

Charlie Hunnam: Who He Is And Why He's Perfect For His 'Fifty Shades' Role

Charlie Hunnam Dakota Johnson E.L. James

So fans all over the world have waited more than a year for news on the 'Fifty Shades of Grey' movie adaptation, but there was a definite resounding disappointment when author EL James finally spilled the main cast over Twitter earlier this week.

Charlie Hunnam Pacific Rim PremiereCharlie Hunnam Pacific Rim Premiere

With everyone expecting one of a series of major actresses for the role of small, dark-haired, big blue-eyed Anastasia Steele, Alexis Bledel being the favourite, the fact that tall, blonde 'Ben and Kate' star Dakota Johnson was selected caused more than a flicker of annoyance among serious readers. However, probably the more outrageous side of the update was who would take on the challenge of the dark and mysterious Christian Grey: not Matt Bomer or Robert Pattinson as fans had hoped, but 'Sons of Anarchy' actor Charlie Hunnam. As the world reached for Google for a reminder as to who this Newcastle born 33-year-old was, his welcome into the project became the coldest he'd ever received.

"I'm so grateful for the fans and I'm touched," said Bomer, speaking via Entertainment Tonight. Who Is Dakota Johnson & Why Has She Landed The '50 Shades' Role Of Ana Steele?

Dakota Johnson Charlie Hunnam E.L. James Sam Taylor-Wood

The swirling rumours have been confirmed: Dakota Johnson will take the lead female role in the movie adaptation of EL James' erotic trilogy, Fifty Shades of Grey. The 23-year old Social Network acress will join Pacific Rim actor Charlie Hunnam in bringing to life the bondage whips-and-chains-filled story.

Dakota Johnson
Dakota Johnson Has Been Picked For The 50 Shades Role.

Many actresses publically distanced themselves from the role, which will inevitably involve plenty of unhinged sex scenes, including Mila Kunis and Emma Watson, who probably weren't even offered the role, but wanted to make sure everyone knew it wasn't their kind of character. The books have been extremely successful, placing EL James at the top of Forbes richest author list of the last year. However, there has been plenty of criticism too, where James' writing, storyline, characters and just about everything else have come under fire as the book was branded "mommy porn."

Dakota Johnson Set For '50 Shades' Lead: Would She Make A Good Ana Steele?

It's less than a year until the Fifty Shades of Grey movie is due in cinemas yet there doesn't seem to have been any firm casting decisions made. The movie, which will be an adaptation from EL James' best-selling erotic fiction of the same name, will have British director Sam Taylor-Johnson (Nowhere Boy) at its helm but nothing more appears to have been set in concrete.

Will Dakota Johnson Really Take The Lead 50 Shades Character?

The role of Christian Grey - the billionaire with a BDSM fetish - has been the most media-covered role so far, with Ian Somerhalder wanting the role, Garrett Hedlund rejecting the role and Taylor-Johnson's own husband, Aaron, rumored for the part. However, it has emerged that we may know who plays student-turned-sex-slave Anastasia Steele first, namely Dakota Johnson.

Ron Perlman Opens Up On His 'Pacific Rim' Cameo

Ron Perlman Guillermo Del Toro Charlie Day Idris Elba Charlie Hunnam

Apart from the epic set pieces, which saw huge robots fighting huge monsters from the deep, one of the best things about Pacific Rim were Charlie Day and Ron Perlman’s exchanges. Day - an eccentric scientist whose brilliance is only hampered by his own shortcomings – and Perlman – an imperious black-market oligarch with the gold-tipped shoes and outlandish outfit to match – enjoy possibly the best-scripted scenes in the film, so much so that they’re featured heavily in the trailer.

Ron PerlmanPerlman at the Pacific Rim premiere

"I got the impression that that character was supposed to be played by someone of a different ethnicity," says Perlman on the role to The Guardian, "and when Guillermo took over, he thought how about if we went with a completely oversized Jew from New York who dressed like PT Barnum, a purveyor of all things materialistic? It took a character that's completely full of shit to start with, then added a whole other layer of full of shit-ness, a double dose."

Pacific Rim Review

OK

The best thing about this massive blockbuster is the way it updates the classic Japanese monster movie to the 21st century, with a first-rate cast and staggeringly good effects. Sadly, the script isn't up to scratch, throwing in enjoyable comedy and corny melodrama while maintaining such a formulaic structure that there isn't a single moment of actual suspense. We never doubt for a second how all of this is going to end or who will survive.

It all begins in the present day, as gigantic creatures called kaiju appear through a temporal rift in the Pacific Ocean floor near Hong Kong. They start attacking cities (inexplicably starting with San Francisco), and humanity takes years to fight back, building massive robots called jaegers that are piloted by two-man teams. Over even more years of fighting, the monsters learn how to stop the jaegers, so military leader Pentecost (Elba) assembles his best jaeger pilots in Hong Kong, including the haunted Becket (Hunnam) and father-son Aussie duo Herc and Chuck (Martini and Kazinsky). And as they plan their assault, the scientist Newt (Day) makes a startling discovery about the kaiju.

Most of the film is played as a massively over-serious action movie in which manly, muscly heroes set out to save the planet. The relational melodrama always feels like a distraction, including Pentecost's assistant (Kikuchi), who wants to be a pilot and carries a torch for Becket. There's also a dose of bromance as Newt tries to loosen up his so-British sidekick (Gorman). And to help spice things up, we also get some comic relief from Perlman, who is hilarious as a swaggering black-market dealer. None of these characters is very complicated, but the gifted actors all do what they can with the roles.

Pacific Rim V Transformers - Guillermo Del Toro Falls Short At Box-Office [Pictures]

Guillermo Del Toro Michael Bay Charlie Hunnam Idris Elba Rinko Kikuchi

Before Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim was released, Michael Bay seemed to take a little pot-shot at him, bemoaning all the ‘rip-off’ robot movies around and imploring fans of that genre to stick with Transformers – the franchise he brought to the big screen with a huge budget back in 2007. The thing is, Bay's movies took tons and tons of cash at the box office. The first, in 2007, took over $700 million. The second took more, while the third took over $1 billion.

Pacific Rim Kaiju
The Kaiju are a formidable foe

Pacific Rim got nowhere near the Transformers movies following its opening week at the box-office. According to the Hollywood Reporter, it opened to around $37 million - a troubling number given the tentpole's massive $190 million-plus budget, not including a pricey marketing campaign.

Pacific Rim Premiere – Stars Ready For Apocalypse Now After Epic Movie

Pacific Rim looks like a ‘leave your brain at the door and enjoy the ridiculousness’ type of film. There’s no proviso, no pretention; it’s monsters, machines, aliens and saving the world.

And so epic was the film, the stars believe they’re ready for any sort of apocalypse that might or might not strike the earth. “Yeah I’d be ready, because I’m the commander of the ship,” says the film’s lead star, Idris Elba when asked if he’s ready to deal with the movie’s events in real life.

Second Trailer For Pacific Rim Raises Story Expectations [Video]

Guillermo Del Toro Charlie Hunnam Idris Elba

With nine days left until Pacific Rim hits theatres, Guillermo Del Toro and co. have graced us with the final trailer. It’s big, it’s bad, it features something that sounds vaguely like dubstep, that much you’d expect. So what’s different this time. Well, cast your eyes back to the first theatrical trailer for the film. If you’re anything like most of us on the internet, it featured two of the things that get your heart racing – giant monsters and giant robots. Don’t ask why, it simply happens and it’s a fact for any 10-year-old kid as much as any adult with a soft spot for sci-fi/video games/high-budget action flicks/any of the above. Here, see for yourself.

Deadfall Review

Good

With a focus on messy family relationships, this thriller's deranged comical touches almost make up for its contrived plot and annoyingly thin characters. Director Ruzowitzky (an Oscar winner for The Counterfeiters) makes the most of the snowy landscapes and an eclectic cast, but the jarring combination of grisly violence, black humour, romance and drama never quite comes together.

In a northern Michigan blizzard, Addison (Bana) is on the run with his sister Liza (Wilde) after a casino heist. When their car crashes in the snow, they decide to head for the Canadian border separately. Liza is picked up off the road by Jay (Hunnam), a hunky ex-con boxer who's stopping to see his parents his parents (Spacek and Kristofferson) while running from the cops himself. Addison encounters a variety of local characters himself as he tries to catch up with Liza. And the local sheriff (Williams) relentlessly picks on deputy Hanna (Mara), his daughter, as they track the fugitives through the snow.

Every relationship in this film is deeply dysfunctional, and the actors have a great time playing with the soapy wrinkles. Bana and Wilde play up the creepy innuendo between the siblings, while the contrived romance between Wilde and Hunnam is like the set-up for a porn movie. Meanwhile, Mara's ambitious cop is so belittled by her awful dad and his equally sexist deputies that we don't really mind it when they start dying one by one in their encounters with Addison. And holding everything together is the wonderfully level-headed Spacek, who carries on cooking dinner while her husband goes out to shoot a deer, then cheerfully serves pie even with a shotgun levelled at her head.

New Pacific Rim Trailer Pits Humans Vs. Aliens (Again)

Idris Elba Guillermo Del Toro Charlie Hunnam

Aliens have a pretty nasty habit of generally getting up in earth’s face and attempting to, well, end all existence. However as the new trailer for Pacific Rim shows their constant invasions haven’t got boring yet, and they’re even finding new ways in which to land on our perennially doomed planet.

Whereas –as the narrator aptly points out – aliens are expected to come from the sky whenever they do come down to strike us forthwith, in Pacific Rim it’s a bit different, with a portal to dimension handily located right in the seas of the world. We should have double checked down there really. Anyway, the result appears to be plenty of humans running around terrified, big giant creatures chucking cars around like pebbles and generally messing up the upholstery of the entire planet. Why smash up something you want to rule? You’re only making yourself more work when it comes to tidying up later.

The scale of Pacific Rim looks vast, with director Guillermo Del Toro clearly hoping that it’ll prove one of the summer blockbusters upon its release in July of next year. The film stars the likes of Charlie Hunnam and Idris Elba as they try and help humanity battle for its survival. We should have boarded up the sea or something, that’d have foiled them. Check out the trailer below.

Deadfall Trailer

Addison and Liza are brother and sister and partners in crime who rob a casino in order to make a better life for themselves in Canada after a troubled homelife when they were younger. However, things go badly wrong when their getaway car overturns whilst driving through a freezing blizzard killing their driver. When a police car pulls up nearby to see if everyone's OK, Addison shoots the approaching officer before suggesting he and his sister split up and ordering Liza to hitch a ride. She is eventually picked up, shivering, by former boxer Jay who is heading to his parents' and offers to take her in for Thanksgiving . She soon finds herself falling for him and struggles to cope with her protective feelings towards him. Meanwhile, Addison is getting into serious trouble elsewhere leaving a trail of bodies as he attempts to retreat into hiding. Things take a shocking turn when the siblings meet up at Jay's parents' house and Liza finds herself torn between the two people she loves the most.

'Deadfall' is the hard-hitting, morally questionable story about the trials and tribulations of family loyalty and true love with a thrilling cast and exhilarating action. It has been directed by Stefan Ruzowitzky ('The Counterfeiters', 'Anatomy', 'Die Siebtelbauern') and written by Zach Dean in his screenwriting debut and is due out in the US on December 7th 2012.

Starring: Eric Bana, Olivia Wilde, Charlie Hunnam, Kate Mara, Sissy Spacek, Kris Kristofferson & Treat Williams.

Charlie Hunnam Katharine Towne Robert Towne

Charlie Hunnam, formerly known for 'Queer As Folk' is set to appear in 'Cold Mountain' in December. But according to the actor, it was his ultimately doomed marriage to Katherine Towne which led to him making his way in Hollywood - mainly because her father is an Oscar-winning screenwriter.

The English-born actor divorced from Towne in 2002 after four years of marriage. He admits that being married to the daughter of the 'Chinatown' and 'Mission Impossible' screenwriter was to driving force behind his transformation from Television actor to movie star. Hunnam explained his relationship with Katherine, saying: "We met at an audition for 'Dawson's Creek' and bonded over our mutual distress at being there in the first place."
