Bridges recently revealed that the original idea for the album was conceived of over thirty years ago, when he became friends with Nashville legend Kris Kristofferson, on the set of epic film Heavens Gate, the press association reported. He also talked about how his love of music has inspired him to take on acting roles that require him to play music: "Whether it's playing jazz piano in Baker Boys or being a country artist in Crazy Heart, it's in me and it's just something that comes out every once in a while."
