CeeLo Green pleaded not guilty to drug charges yesterday (Monday 21st October) whilst appearing in court in LA.
CeeLo Green pleaded not guilty to a charge of giving a woman a hit of ecstasy before having sex with her.
CeeLo Green pleaded not guilty to the drug charges.
The case first came to the Los Angeles Police Department's attention in October of last year. It seems the incident occurred in mid-July last year when CeeLo Green, whose real name is Thomas DeCarlo Callaway, allegedly slipped a 33-year-old woman MDMA whilst they were having dinner, according to the LA Times. It seems they retired to her hotel room where police initially thought an assault took place.
Initially Green was looking at charges of sexual battery; however, due to insufficient evidence, the charge of sexual assault was dropped. His lawyer, Blair Berk, referred to this charge stating that any sexual contact between the woman and Green had been consensual. On the subject she said "we are pleased that the Los Angeles County District Attorney has completed its investigation and concluded that the evidence did not support the false and unfounded claims made over a year ago."
Cee Lo Green claimed he is not scared of drug charges.
If Green is convicted on the charge of possession and supply he may face up to four years in State Prison. Nevertheless, Green appeared optimistic about his prospects. Green appeared at the criminal court house only moments before his hearing, accompanied by his attorney Berk, according to TMZ.
Green had time to speak to the press who were waiting outside the court house. He claimed was not scared of the charges and is relieved the sexual assault charges have been dropped. This was reiterated by Berk, who stated, on the subject of the drug charges, "Mr Green will responsibly address that matter in a court of law."
Another hearing was set for next month (20th November). Bail, set at $30 000, was posted so the singer is free - for now.
