Hollywood actress Catherine Zeta-Jones checked into a mental health facility last week (ends08Apr11) to seek treatment for bipolar disorder.
The Chicago star has endured a tough year after supporting her husband Michael Douglas through his throat cancer battle following his diagnosis last summer (10).
Douglas was given the all-clear earlier this year (11), but the pressure of dealing with the illness took its toll on the Welsh beauty and she decided to turn to professionals to combat a serious bout of depression.
According to the National Enquirer, the 41 year old admitted herself into the Silver Hill Hospital in Connecticut on 6 April (11) and underwent a five-day treatment plan before leaving the centre on Monday (11Apr11).
Zeta-Jones' spokesperson insists the star is now eager to get back to work.
The representative tells People.com, "After dealing with the stress of the past year, Catherine made the decision to check in to a mental health facility for a brief stay to treat her Bipolar II disorder.
"She's feeling great and looking forward to starting work this week on her two upcoming films."
