Cate Blanchett compares her acting career to a ''passionate affair'' which she can't give up and that keeps her away from her family.
Cate Blanchett says her acting career feels like a ''passionate affair'' she can't give up.
The 'Blue Jasmine' actress - who is married to screenwriter Andrew Upton, with whom she has three sons; Dashiell, 11, Roman, nine, and Ignatius, five - thinks job offers can be ''very seductive'' therefore she finds it difficult to refuse roles, despite feeling like she is cheating on her family when she is away on set.
Speaking to the new issue of Total Film magazine - on sale now - she said: ''I always say I'm going to quit, after every job. Your work is an affair that takes you away from your life. It has to be a passionate affair in order to make you cheat on your family so I'm always saying, 'This is the last time I'm going to cheat.' But it's very seductive.''
The 44-year-old Australian starlet, who was catapulted to worldwide fame in 1997 film 'Paradise Road', initially gave herself five years to succeed in the movie industry when she started and thinks she has been ''incredibly lucky'' to have landed star many great roles early on in her career because she doesn't think she could have coped with rejection.
She explained: ''I'd seen a lot of actors, brilliant actors who didn't work very often and obviously particularly when you're starting out there's more rejection than there is acceptance. I said I'll give myself five years because I didn't think that I'm of strong enough mettle to deal with rejection so I've been incredibly, incredibly lucky.''
