Antipodean actress Cate Blanchett transformed herself from an urbanite into a horseriding pioneer mother for Ron Howard's thriller The Missing.

The OSCAR-nominated star - who is pregnant with her second child - had to remove herself from her comfortable, gadget-filled existence to get inside the tough character.

Cate explains, "I'm quite urban. I don't like to be too far away from an espresso machine."

And the dedicated thespian didn't flinch from her exhausting horse-riding training for the role - and continued to practice even as the film was shooting.

Director RON HOWARD enthuses, "If she had an hour, it seemed like she was out riding on the range somewhere."
