YOU'RE SO VAIN singer Carly Simon loves to show off her mastectomy scar because she thinks it's one of the most beautiful things about her.

Simon underwent a mastectomy in 1998, a year after she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and now she's proud of what she went through and the scar that most women are keen to hide.

She says, "My scar is beautiful. It looks like an arrow. I didn't bother rubbing things into it or having any silicone injections. I just kept it that way because I liked it.

"I just want to show off my scar proudly and not be afraid of it. A really strong woman accepts the war she went through and is ennobled by her scars."

Simon admits her mother taught her how to be positive about her body - no matter what it looked like.

She adds, "She had arthritis in her fingers even when she was my age, but she used to look at her hands and say, 'Isn't this beautiful' Look at the shape. Don't they look like gnarled tree trunks?'"
