British rocker Carl Barat may be forced to change the name of his new group, because there is already a band performing as Dirty Pretty Things in the UK.

The former LIBERTINES star disbanded the critically lauded group shortly after his explosive relationship with fellow frontman Pete Doherty broke down last year (04).

After overcoming fears he would never record again, Barat formed Dirty Pretty Things with his fellow former Libertines Gary Powell and ANTHONY ROSSOMANDO.

He has recruited The Cooper Temple Clause bassist DIDZ HAMMOND to complete his new line-up - and live dates are already looming.

But a four-piece from Salisbury, England, insist they have been playing live shows as Dirty Pretty Things since January (05) - and intend to fight to retain their band's name.

Reports indicate legal representatives for the original Dirty Pretty Things have made contact with Barat's record label Vertigo to negotiate a settlement
