The Libertines are still 'unpredictable' as they discuss their summer on the road and triumphant reunion shows.
While it may have been one of the most anticipated reunions of the year, The Libertines are still proving to be as chaotic and unpredictable as they were in The Good Old Days. The cult band, consisting of frontmen and guitarists Pete Doherty and Carl Barat, along with drummer Gary Powell and bassist John Hassall, reunited this summer for a string of high profile festival dates across Europe.
While the performances have been widely praised by both fans and critics, the band have opened up about some of the more shambolic moments from their summer on the road.
Barat doesn't seem bothered...
Carl Barat has issued a pragmatic response to those opposing The Libertines’ comeback gig at Hyde Park in early July. “If people are concerned about noise they shouldn't have moved to Hyde Park,” he said.
This is what Libertines fans have been waiting years to see again
Barclaycard's British Summer Time gigs at Hyde Park on July 5th will see the iconic indie rock band perform their much anticipated comeback, but Mayfair residents have objected, specifically name checking Peter Doherty – the band’s controversial frontman – in their reasoning.

Pete Doherty and Carl Barat will reunite The Libertines to perform at British Summer Time festival in July.
Pete Doherty and Carl Barât will reunite their band The Libertines to perform a one-off show in Hyde Park this summer. The gig will be part of the Barclaycard British Summer Time concerts scheduled to take place in London on 5 July. It’s news that fans of The Libertines have waited to hear since their last temporary reunion in 2010, when they played Leeds and Reading Festival.

The band, formed in 1997, initially split in 2004 as a result of issues between band members, allegedly due to Doherty’s addiction to heroin and crack cocaine. The news of the reunion was revealed by Doherty in an interview with Israeli newspaper Ynet: “I don’t know if Im supposed to even tell you this, but we were offered [the chance] to reform The Libertines for a show this July in Hyde Park…I said yes. The thing is when I think about it now, it was kind of a strange answer because I think in most days if you asked me the same question I would say no, but recently I tried to call Carl [Barât] and couldn’t reach him.”
A simple chocolate covered peanut was almost the downfall of Liam Gallagher.
It would have been slightly ironic had a blue M&M nut killed off former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher. The Manchester-born singer, who's lived the rock n' roll lifestyle for over 20 years, admitted he thought his time was up after going into anaphylactic shock during a international tour last month. The singer has since been diagnosed with a nut allergy after suffering a reaction to his favourite sweets while performing abroad.
Speaking at the launch of The Red House restaurant in south-west London, Gallagher told The Sun: "I've done some stuff over the years but never, never did I think a f****** blue M&M would be the thing that could have killed me. I was in a hotel on holiday and got in about the mini bar..I was bored and hungry, so it's what you do, man. I've always liked M&Ms so I got into them. I had a blue one..My mouth started to swell up and I could feel it tightening my throat, man. I had to go to the docs and get it checked out straight away." Pretty scary stuff indeed.
Anyway, Liam now has to carry a syringe about with him in case of emergencies, "Proper Pete Doherty gear," he added. The singer was out drinking with brother-in-law Liam Howlett, Hurts' singer Theo Hutchcraft, The Libertines guitarist Carl Barat and rappers Rizzle Kicks. The whole gang ended up in The Box nightclub in Soho.

Carl Barat is best known as the co-frontman of The Libertines, the band he formed with the infamous Pete Doherty. He was also the frontman and lead guitarist of 'Dirty Pretty Things,' and has turned his hand to modelling, acting, and mentoring in the V Festival's 'Road to V' competition. Barat is currently working on solo material and is an ambassador for Phillips' 'Obsessed with Sound' campaign.

Timing, they said, is everything. And what timing Carl Barat has. Barely has the dust settled on the incendiary Libertines reunion shows and he unveils a solo offering, which does more to distance him from that band than anything he's tried so far.

Carl Barat's eponymous debut solo album is a world away from the anarchical sounds of his former bands. We caught up with the Carl to talk about life as a solo artist, what's next for The Libertines, and why his new record is drawing comparisons with Tim Burton.
