Carey Mulligan is in talks to star in 'Drive'.

The British actress - who was nominated for an Oscar earlier this year for her role in 'An Education' - is in negotiations to take a starring role in the Nicolas Winding Refn-directed thriller.

It would be a departure for the 25-year-old star, who is mostly known for her role in dramas.

'Drive' - which has already signed up Ryan Gosling and Bryan Cranston to star - tells the tale of a Hollywood stuntman who assists in bank robberies in his spare time.

However, when his latest project doesn't work out as planned, he ends up on the run with a former prisoner's girlfriend - potentially played by Mulligan - in the passenger seat of a car.

Hossein Amini has scripted the project, which is due to begin shooting in Los Angeles in September.

Mulligan is next due to appear in Oliver Stone's 'Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps' as Winnie Gecko alongside Shia LaBeouf and Michael Douglas.
