Pauline & Paulette Review

Good
You'd think that the custody issues surrounding a 66-year-old woman would have been resolved long ago, but Pauline & Paulette shows us that's not necessarily the case. Pauline (Dora van der Groen) is a moderately retarded old lady who still lives like a child. When her current caretaker, older sister Martha, passes away, the question turns to which of the other sisters will watch over her. Paulette certainly doesn't want her -- she runs an upscale shop where "children" aren't welcome. So what happens to Pauline? This small and simple film is less about the family struggle and more about what happens to the mentailly challenged when they hit their golden years. Van der Groen is not really retarded but she does an exceptional job in an otherwise straightforward morality play.
