Will and Jillian are in love and both have recently graduated collage. Jillian managed to get a well-paid and high profile just almost instantly, Will on the other hand is still interning at companies for free but Will's luck is about to change (or so he thinks). He's just been offered a paid position at LA Weekly but when he turns up for work he's abruptly informed that the job position is no longer available because of downsizing.
Will lives with his pot loving buddies who are all really close but some might be on the verge of being called 'deadbeats'. Will and his friends are all in a similar position, they 'really struggling to find a job, Jillian is the only structured part of his life.
Needs must means Will must sell his beloved TV but things start to look up for the graduate when, against the odds, he's offered a job as a videographer. Just as Will gets into the swing at his new office Jillian finds herself jobless. Will is quick to encourage Jillian to get straight back out there but she finds herself with little luck.

So where, exactly, did the makers of the nauseating Alvin and the Chipmunks go wrong? How did something that seemed like a slam dunk turn into one of the biggest piles of 2007 junk? Maybe it's the lack of cleverness? A myriad of missed opportunities? The blatant stupidity of the entire narrative? You'd think that Jon Vitti (ex-Simpsons scribe), Will McRobb and Chris Viscardi (both of Pete and Pete fame) could come up with something fresher, more original, than this rabid rags-to-riches tale. Even worse, director Tim Hill (Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties) offers no situational context to make the otherwise surreal circumstances crackle with comic possibilities.

Open Water 2: Adrift is in no way a sequel to the original Open Water, except that both feature people bobbing helplessly in the water. In the original, the sharks get them (more or less) after one couple's SCUBA charter leaves them behind. In this follow-up, six Gen-X'ers jump off a luxury yacht and into the water... but *d'oh!* no one put the ladder down, so they can't get back aboard. How will they get aboard? Well aside from the obvious (which occurs to them at the very end), they'll try everything from jumping in the water to making ropes out of bikini tops.
