The Princess And The Frog Review

Excellent
Gorgeous imagery and an energetic story make this one of Disney's most enjoyable animated features. And the fact that the studio has returned to an eye-catching hand-drawn style is very good news for an industry that's in a visual rut.

In 1940s New Orleans, Tiana (voiced by Rose) has grown up with a dream to have her own jazz joint. But as a young black woman she has to work two jobs to make ends meet. One day the sinister Facilier (David) turns a visitor, Prince Naveen (Campos), into a frog as part of an elaborate plot to take over the city. But things don't go as expected Tiana reluctantly kisses the frog, and soon they're lost in the bayou with only a trumpet-playing gator (Wooley) and a lovelorn firefly (Cummings) to help them.

Mimic 2 Review

OK
Warranted or not, I usually look at direct to video movies as if I'm not getting the best product for my money. In most video stores Boogie Nights and Citizen Kane are the same price as the latest chapter in the From Dusk Till Dawn saga, so why should I visit the cinematic slums if I don't have to?

Mimic 2 isn't an embarrassing rental. It's about as good as any movie about a giant, mutant cockroach can be expected to be. There are a few entertaining moments, some neat scenery to enjoy, and Jon Polito and Edward Albert are both in it. If that last piece of information doesn't make you want run to the video store with heart-pounding glee, then I don't know what will.

Dopamine Review

Very Good
This film takes the chemistry behind romantic attraction as the leading ingredient in the struggle between the sexes. It puts a guy who is too intellectual for his own good together with a gal who is more inclined toward emotional fulfillment.

The guy is Rand (John Livingston), a computer graphics designer working with two partners on a 3-D animated bird figure (Koy Koy) that learns from and responds to voiced expressions, taking the concept of interactivity to a higher level. They're doing the breakthrough work for a Japanese client who asks them to install the software in a kindergarten class for a real world test of the product. Rand balks, worried that his creation may not be ready for public exposure, but his partners in the San Francisco startup venture, Winston (Bruno Campos) and Johnson (Reuben Grundy), recognize the wisdom behind the request and override Rand's objections.
