Springsteen hooked up with rocker Joe Grushecky to release new song 'That's What Makes Us Great', aimed at Trump, his administration and fake news.
Never one to stay silent about political affairs, veteran rocker Bruce Springsteen has unleashed another protest song aimed at U.S. president Donald Trump titled ‘That’s What Makes Us Great’, which is available to purchase online.
Springsteen’s views about the controversial Republican president Trump have been clear for a long time, as the 67 year old songwriter has variously labelled the real estate mogul-turned-politician as “a moron” and described his inflammatory travel ban as “fundamentally un-American”.

The satirist and voice of liberal America stood down after 16 years fronting 'The Daily Show' in a low-key finale.
Comedian Jon Stewart has made his final broadcast as the host of Comedy Central’s ‘The Daily Show’, stepping down after 16 years, and he was joined by a clutch of big name stars including rock legend Bruce Springsteen.
The show has been responsible for launching the careers of some pretty big names down the years, and some of them returned to the show for an emotional group hug, including Steve Carell and Stephen Colbert – himself due to take over Letterman’s slot later this year. There were also video messages from a couple of former presidential candidates, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Republican Senator John McCain.

He joined old pal Joe Grushecky at Asbury Park's Wonder Bar.
All those who fancied a quiet night in New Jersey with Pennsylvania rockers Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers got one hell of a surprise when the Boss himself showed up. You're lucky if you can catch Bruce Springsteen live at all these days, let alone seeing him pop up unannounced at a city bar.
Bruce Springsteen performs surprise gig at Asbury Park
The multi-Grammy winning superstar decided to drop in on his friend Joe Grushecky, on whose 1995 album 'American Babylon' Springsteen produced, while he was performing with his band at the Wonder Bar in Asbury Park. And it wasn't even like it was a short stop to play a couple of duets; he was there for a good two hours entertaining a lot of shell-shocked fans whose night epitomised the expression 'a lot more than they bargained for'.

After having a music career that spanned five decades and saw the release of over 70 studio albums, country music superstar, Glen Campbell, was hit with a major tragedy. In June 2011, Campbell announced to his worldwide fan base that he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease six months earlier. What followed was a 'goodbye tour' of epic proportions. The tour was originally scheduled for five weeks, but in almost no time at all, that five weeks blossomed into a 151-week tour of sold-out concerts as fans across the globe flocked to see and support the musical legend before his retirement for the industry. His final performance came in 2012, at that year's Grammy Awards Ceremony were he performed his most famous and most loved song, 'Rhinestone Cowboy'.

Bruce Springsteen's latest concert, which lasted 3 ½ hours, nearly went without a hitch.
The 64 year-old musician was performing this past Saturday (May 17th) for a packed-out crowd at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut, for his High Hopes tour alongside the E Street Band.
But in an embossing moment for Springsteen, he accidently gave a shout out to a completely different state.

Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen and Arcade Fire bring life to New Orleans Jazz Festival 2014.
It's that time of year again where New Orleans go all out to prove they are one of the most culturally rich cities in North America with their annual two-weekend event, the New Orleans Jazz Festival.
The Jazz Festival has expanded to two long weekends since its inaugural year in 1970, meaning that more people than ever can get the chance to enjoy the fine music culture of Louisiana. The Queen of Gospel Mahalia Jackson appeared at the first event alongside renowned orchestral composer Duke Ellington, and from then on the festival has gone from strength to strength and has never once lost the spirit that has made it so loved.
It's nearly time to usher in a new generation of rock legends.
Today's the day! A new year's worth of rock royalty will tonight be ushered into the coveted Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at Brooklyn's Barclays Center. Nirvana, Kiss, Peter Gabriel, Cat Stevens, Linda Ronstadt, Hall And Oates, the E Street Band, Andrew Loog Oldham and Brian Epstein are hours away from becoming the newest members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Former Nirvana Rockers Dave Grohl & Krist Novoselic Will Be Performing At Tonight's Ceremony.
Stevens, now called Yusuf Islam, is going to perform alongside the E Street Band, who are being inducted b Bruce Springsteen, as well as Gabriel. Emmylou Harris, Carrie Underwood, Stevie Nicks and Bonnie Raitt will reportedly be singing a tribute to Ronstadt. SPIN is reporting that Joan Jett will sing the Nirvana tunes, which has ignited rock fan's imagination more than any other rumour.
'20 Feet From Stardom' is a staggering music documentary.
In the weeks leading up to the Oscars, pundits were divided about which documentary would win the big prize, most predicting The Act of Killing, the innovative, staggeringly powerful exploration of Indonesia's death squads. But anyone who had seen the background singer doc 20 Feet From Stardom knew it was probably more likely to take the award.
Darlene Love in '20 Feet From Stardom'
Not only is the film a hugely crowd-pleasing movie that leaves audiences smiling and tapping their toes in joy, but it has serious subtext as well, examining America's civil rights struggle through the eyes of musical artists. It also makes a potent statement about today's digital, auto-tuned recording industry in which non-singers make records and do their own backing vocals, but neglect to infuse their records with the passion and energy that fills the classic songs of the past few decades.
Continue reading: Why '20 Feet From Stardom' Deserved The Oscar For 'Best Documentary'
Entertaining and uplifting, this Oscar-winning documentary tells the unknown story of the back-up singers who made classic records so memorable. Packed with lively, engaging people and fantastic music, the film also offers a sharp look at the music industry over the past 60 years in parallel with the fight for civil rights in America.
In the 1950s, background singers were usually white girls who read sheet-music perfectly. But they were quickly replaced with black artists who learned their craft in churches and could improvise harmonies with the lead singers. Suddenly, pop songs were infused with passion and life, as a handful of unknown singers performed backing vocals on virtually every classic hit since then. With their powerhouse voices and larger-than-life personalities, most have also tried to find success as solo artists. Others prefer to stay in the shadows.
For example, even though established stars acknowledge that she has more talent than any of them, Lisa Fischer prefers the quiet life out of the spotlight. Other belters like Merry Clayton, Tata Vega and Claudia Lennear can be heard on hundreds of timeless classics and are known throughout the industry, but never managed to get their solo careers off the ground. Judith Hill is a young artist who does soaring backing work while waiting for her own music to take off. And Darlene Love is the exception who managed both long background and solo careers.

Bruce Springsteen's album 'High Hopes' is top of the pile in the UK.
Bruce Springsteen certainly had 'High Hopes' for his eighteenth studio album, claiming on his website that it contains "the best of my writing". Springsteen will undoubtedly be delighted to find that his latest work has delivered him a tenth UK number one - propelling himself ahead of ABBA and Queen, and on par with U2 and Rolling Stones - as reported by The Official Charts Company.
Bruce Springsteen Has Scored A UK No.1
High Hopes - officially penned in for a January 14th 2014 release - was accidentally leaked by retail giants Amazon late December. Though the error was sorted swiftly, the album had become available for download through various file sharing websites according to, Billboard.

It seems fitting that Bruce Springsteen has chosen to bookend his worldwide Wrecking Ball tour with another studio album. His eighteenth record 'High Hopes' picks up on many of the same themes of triumph over adversity as its predecessor. While it may lack the narrative cohesion of earlier releases, it acts as a companion piece and a meditation on his work over the last two decades. 'High Hopes'' genesis as a collection of reworked off cuts and covers shouldn't undermine its importance within the 64-year-old's back catalogue either. It features the final posthumous appearances of saxophonist Clarence Clemons and organist Danny Federici; two members of the E Street Band who have received touching tributes during recent live sets.
Springsteen describes the twelve tracks found on 'High Hopes' in an affectionate way: "I felt they all deserved a home and a hearing." To be honest, I'm not going to disagree with that sentiment. There is value to what's here and the fact that it doesn't quite overcome its patchwork quilt nature as a compilation of songs written over a long period and recorded with varying musicians around the world just adds to the charm. The revolving cast includes contributions from members of his current touring band, the core E Street Band members, his children and, most notably, Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello who filled in for Steven Van Zandt during last year's Australian shows. Springsteen was already putting together a record of lost gems, but it seems Morello added a spark to the project to make it more than just a curio. Indeed, Morello suggested dusting off the title track which had only seen the light of day on a promotional EP back in the '90s. This time round though, when Springsteen sings, "I want to have a wife, I want to have some kids, I want to look in their eyes and know they stand a chance", there's a sense he's making a rallying cry against the financial hardships facing middle America. Elevated from a simple gospel style jam, Morello injects a razor sharp edge with his guitar that breathes new life into 'High Hopes'.
His other major contribution here is the electric reworking of the previously quiet and unassuming 'The Ghost of Tom Joad'. While the song has been transformed on the road in the past, this is a rare example of a studio recording with a shared lead vocal. Again, Morello's guitar makes the song feel more contemporary and defiant revealing its thematic similarity to 'High Hopes'. It's also interesting to see the most impressive solo on the whole record featured on a track that is essentially a folk song. However, Springsteen succeeds in his endeavours even when Morello isn't in the spotlight. 'American Skin (41 shots)' which has been sitting in the vaults for years is a timely criticism of US gun laws, following the Trayvon Martin case. Even 'The Wall', which deals specifically with a soldier that didn't return from Vietnam, taps into a sense of loss renewed by more recent conflicts.

The Boss' 18th studio album has so far received generally favorable reviews and was made available to stream online last night (5 Jan.)
After it was leaked early through Amazon, Bruce Springsteen's latest album - High Hopes - is finally available to listen to legitimately, after the blue collar hero made his latest LP available to stream online for free. Ten days before it is due to be released officially, High Hopes is available to listen to now, and it's all thanks to the hit CBS drama The Good Wife.
High Hopes has already recevied mostly positive feedback
High Hopes was made available to stream in its entirety via the CBS website, the the full album being uploaded to the site following the ending of last night's (5 Jan.) episode of the hit legal program. At around 10 pm last night, in a unique tie in with the episode that preceded it, the album was released early for all to enjoy.
The new album wasn't supposed to be released until mid-January but it made a surprise appearance online this weekend
Bruce Springsteen pulled a Beyoncé this weekend by releasing his latest album without any warning and through only a limited point of distribution. The difference between Beyoncé and Bruce Springsteen's newest album, High Hopes, is that the R&B diva had full control of her release, whilst the Boss had no say in the unannounced release of his new album.
Springsteen seemingly had no knowledge of the release
Scheduled for release on 17 January, the album made a surprise appearance on Amazon on Saturday, 28 December, when the online retailers accidentally released it a few weeks early. That quick hiccup from Amazon didn't go unnoticed and the album had already been downloaded a number of times before the site noticed their mistake and took down the download link. They weren't quick enough to prevent the release from falling into the wrong hands though and soon the album was available to download on P2P torrent sites and other illegal download sites.
The veteran rockers may have suffered some turbulence in their ranks, but that hasn't stopped them bringing in the Benjamins
Bon Jovi made over $205m (£125m) collectively over the last twelve months of being on tour; an impressive amount by all means, ensuring they finish 2013 as the highest grossing touring group of the year. Since January, the band have performed 90 sets to over two million fans, according to Billboard's yearly rankings, with each show a sell-out, making them easy victors in this year's rankings.
Bon Jovi performed to millions of people across the globe and made millions back in return
The Michael Jackson-inspired 'Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour' by Cirque Du Soleil came in second and despite not scoring a single sell-out performance, they contortionists still managed to bring in $157m Third and fourth place was decided by a few (hundred) thousand, with Pink edging out Bruce Springsteen for the No. 3 spot. Her 114 shows in 2013, 111 of which sold out, earned the singer $147.9m as she performed to over 1.5 million people across the globe. Springsteen saw his 53 tours sell out in 36 locations, with over 1.3 million people paying a combined $147.6m to see The Boss.
