Elisabeth Hasselbeck has been a presenter on ABC's morning talk show The View since 2003. It was announced yesterday (9th July) that she will not be returning to the show. Her last day on the show will be on Wednesday (10th July) according to an ABC spokesperson. It is uncertain who will take over Hasselbeck's position although TMZ  report there are rumours that Brooke Shields is in talks for the position.

Hasselbeck's career was launched after she appeared on Survivor: The Autralian Outback in 2001. Since then she has acted as a presenter for The View and a judge on Miss USA.

Brooke Shields' mother, Teri Shields died last week at the age of 79 after enduring a long illness, related to dementia, says the New York Times. Teri came under criticism in Brooke's youth after letting the young actress/model appear in roles and campaigns that were deemed unsuitable for her age. Notably, Brooke's role as a prostitute in the 1978 movie 'Pretty Baby' when she was just 11. 

In a 1978 People interview, the relationship between the two was a focal point. "Occasionally the intimacy between mother and daughter turns into anger," it said. " 'Oh, Mommy, you're so dumb!' Brooke complains. Teri, offended, snaps back, 'I don't have to take that crap!' and storms out of the room." Over 15 years later, in a '94 interview with the New York Times, Brooke referred to her childhood saying "I grew up in an alcoholic household" and said that she was "the caretaker who wants to make everything better." It came as no surprise then, when Brooke opted to lose her mother as her manager, and instead take the helm of her own life, steering the course for her career in the way she deemed best fit. 

Despite lifelong tension with her mother Brooke made a heartfelt statement about Teri, which People reports. "My mother was an enormous part of my life and of who I am today," She said. "I loved her, laughed with her, and respected her. And although she had her share of struggles, she was my mom." 

Teri Shields, the mother and manager of Brooke Shields, has died at 79, reportedly due to dementia-related illness. 

Teri used to pop up in the news fairly regularly, raising eyebrows and garnering critical questions after allowing Brooke, at the tender age of just 11, to be cast as a prostitute in the 1978 film 'Pretty Baby'. At the time Teri disturbingly referred to her daughter as a "sexy child", and agreed with a description of her as "forbidden fruit", reports the New York Times. Despite this, she managed her daughters career for many years, until 1995 when Brooke chose to make it on her own, as Fox reports, the model and actress cited a difference of professional interests. "The focus was on creating a persona rather than a talent" she said. 

The mother-daughter relationship was apparently already strained, as Brooke has said in the past that she grew up in "an alcoholic household" but really hit its most difficult rough patch as Brooke reached adulthood and the relationship between them was apparently tense between mother, daughter, manager, client and friend. Teri, in an interview with 'Extra', said "I felt that she had to be on her own. It kills me once in a while. I would like to get over it I would love for Brooke to be my best friend, but you can't because I am her mother and she is my daughter." 47-year-old Brooke has, as yet, not commented on her mother's death.
