The first two episodes of US show 'X Factor' has proved to be a massive hit with fans as Princess of Pop Britney Spears proves herself as a formidable judge.

The premiere of the show's second season on Wednesday (September 12, 2012) saw a mixture of emotions and opened with a star performance from 21-year-old Paige Thomas who impressed judge La Reid with her Rihanna-like quality. It closed on an equally terrific performance from a 19-year-old who began her audition by talking about the issues she's had with bullying and how she appreciates the work of youngest judge Demi Lovato against the issue. It moved Demi to tears as she told the young performer that her song 'broke [her] heart'.

On a less impressive note, a 32-year-old vocal coach called Don Philip failed to excite the judges with his attempt at 'Halo' by Beyonce despite his history with Britney, with whom he sang a duet some ten years previous. Similarly, in the second show, an eccentrically-devoted Britney fan (we're talking Chris Crocker obsessed here!) manages to freak his idol out by presenting her with a bouquet of roses, which Simon Cowell insists on giving to Britney so the fan doesn't get too close, and then belting out a horrific rendition of her hit 'Circus' - an apt title for that audition. While Cowell gave his usual accurate analogy of the performance ('It was like you had an argument with Britney Spears, got drunk, and decided to scream the song at her'), Britney seemed lost for words and simply said 'No' which seemed to upset the 'X Factor' hopeful . Her sharp words definitely look to be giving Simon a run for his money this season.
