Britney Spears vs. Sam Lufti, The Trial Continues
In the first two days of the Britney Spears trial, in which Sam Lufti - her ex manager - is suing her for defamation of character and breach of contract, among other things, a lot of new information came to light. This new information includes Spears being accused of taking a lot of amphetamines and Lufti bringing sniffer dogs in to raid the singer's home for drugs. Today (20th Oct. 2012) her father gave evidence in her defense.
Leon Gladstone is the lawyer for the defense, The Huffington Post reports. He gave a rousing opening statement which claimed Jamie Spears, Britney's father, had done everything in his power to protect her. According to HP, Jamie Spears 'worked tirelessly' to keep his daughter mentally stable and away from drugs, where possible. Lufti's lawyer, Josheph Schleimer, gave a surprisingly similar speech, claiming that Lufti also did everything possible to keep Britney away from drugs, even bringing in sniffer dogs to search the house for drugs. "[Britney] liked to use amphetamines - speed or uppers," he said. "She liked to take that drug. And most of the things that went wrong were related to that drug." The sniffer dogs allegedly found a bag of crystal meth, claims E!
Everything that Schleimer said seemed to meet a disbelieving audience. The judge reminded him "Everything you say, you have to be able to back it up. You can't waste time on statements just thrown in the air. Everything has to have evidence.I'm trying to make a point and I hope you get it. " However, Schleimer came back to that by defending Lufti: "My client has never been paid for serving as her manager," the lawyer concluded. "He was made famous as the guy who drugged Britney Spears and put her in the hospital. The evidence will show the defendants ruined my client's reputation."
As yet there seems to be no hard evidence on each side, and however the case turns out will be a surprise.
