Over the past few weeks, American Sniper has been touted as an example of quality military action, one of Clint Eastwood’s best, and even received several award nods. American Sniper is on track to win this weekend’s box office. Unsurprising, given the six Oscar nods the Bradley Cooper starrer scooped up this week, including Cooper’s third Best Actor nod in as many years.  It earned six Oscar nominations on Thursday, including Best Picture and a Best Actor nod for Bradley Cooper. The Time Warner release even made it seem like even more of an event via asking IMAX to do a lightning-quick conversion for yesterday’s wide release.

Having played in just four theatres since its December release, American Sniper had already grossed $3,4 million. According to Forbes, it checked in at $30,5 million on Friday, with $5,3 million coming from Thursday previews. The movie is currently on track for a $90 million Friday to Sunday with a possible $100 million taking for the full Friday to Monday Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend.

Just when you thought Jennifer Lawrence’s 2014 couldn’t get any more spectacular, she’s been announced as the top grossing actor of the year, with her movies pulling in more viewers than any other name.

According to the list compiled by Forbes, the 24 year old starred in two of the year’s top-grossing movies, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and X-Men: Days of Future Past, which together brought in $1.4 billion in worldwide box offices.

Production for 'American Sniper' began back in May, 2012, after Warner Brothers acquired the rights to Chris Kyle's autobiography of the same name. On 2nd February, 2013, Kyle was shot dead at a shooting range in Texas by a fellow ex-marine, suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. That sort of devastating twist in the tale was enough to cause director Steven Spielberg to leave the project, yet it wasn't enough to keep Clint Eastwood from stepping in and bringing the hero's story to the big screen.

"The studio called and asked if I would be interested in being involved with this picture," explained Eastwood, "and ironically I was reading his book. In fact I was down to about the last 30 pages." Eastwood officially joined the project as a director on 21st August 2013. After receiving the offer, he sat down and finished the book, calling back the following day to accept the job.

The confidential files just keep on leaking from Sony and the latest batch has ignited some gender-related controversy. Meanwhile, co-stars Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner and Christian Bale got... get ready for this... 9% each. I’m no math expert here, but I’m pretty sure that doesn’t even come out to the often cited statistic of 81 cents to a dollar.

This year Guardians of the Galaxy swooped into theatres and saved the summer box office, taking over $654 million worldwide. Now Disney is hoping they can transfer some of Guardian’s box office magic to the small screen, with a new animated series to air on their XD channel.

London’s Leicester Square played host to the Guardian of The Galaxy premiere last night. The latest Marvel adventure has been attracting strong praise for the critics ahead of what is expected to be a big box office weekend for action-comedy.

“They're the thieves, the bounty hunters and the neglected”, explains Zoe Saldana of their characters in this featurette. “It's not a typical superhero movie.” Chris Pratt – who plays the ‘hero’ role, adds: “Peter Quill is the only human in this crazy world. He doesn't have superhuman strength or the abillity to fly but he uses his cunning and his charm to get himself out of situations.” Finally, Bradley Cooper – who plays a machine gun-wielding Racoon, Rocket - spoke highly of the melding of genres, both action and comedy. “There's a lot of humour in this one and a lot of heart. There's nothing like it, that's for sure.”

Amazingly, the two actors never worked together in the studio, and Diesel the CGI team and director James Gunn with making sure their on-screen relationship was out of this world.

With an estimated income of $75 million between June 2013 and June 2014, Downey Jr. shows that he's somewhat similar to his onscreen counterpart, billionaire superhero Tony Stark. 2014 has actually been a fairly quiet year for Downey Jr. considering there is no Marvel blockbuster hitting our screens (featuring him, at any rate) but he still managed to maintain his spot at the top.

The stars of both Godzilla and X-men: Days of Future Past turned out for a pair of big premieres over the past week. Godzilla, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen and Bryan Cranston, had its world premiere in Los Angeles, while X-men: Days of Future Past, starring Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender, bowed in New York. On Wednesday (March 26, 2014) a new report on the Latino Review suggested Disney was ready to go ahead with a new INDIANA JONES movie. Not too much of a surprise you may have thought, and you'd be right, a fifth Indie movie has been rumored for a couple of years. Only, this report suggested the studio was ready to replace Harrison Ford with Bradley Cooper.

For most of us, white dresses tend to be avoided due to the catastrophic stains which inevitably and quite magically appear all over the material and which are, quite inexplicably, impossible to scrub out. Fortunately, we're not the only ones and even the terribly glamorous and confident Jennifer Lawrence is not immune from destroying her wardrobe, even on a film set.

Lawrence's white dress in American Hustle was the victim of Doritos stains and on more than one occasion. As a result, the film's costume designer Michael Wilkinson was forced to make a number of dresses for the clumsy star. Wilkinson, who is nominated for an Oscar for his work on American Hustle, was recently interviewed by Vanity Fair and he joked about Lawrence's junk food habits. He said "Jennifer Lawrence is a very, let's say, raw and intuitive young lady, and she's not against eating Doritos and snack food in her costume. So we were glad that we had a couple [of backups]."
