Brad Pitt paid a special tribute to Angelina Jolie's late mother on the day they tied the knot.

The Hollywood couple married in secret in France last month and Brad, 50, took the opportunity to remember his new wife's mum, MARCHELINE BERTRAND, who died of ovarian cancer in 2007, by engraving a tribute to her in stone where they were wed.

A source told HELLO! magazine, in conjunction with PEOPLE magazine in the US: ''Brad and Angelina wanted the ceremony to be both simple and personal.''

Brad and Angelina's French estate Chateau Miraval in Correns was the preferred location for their marriage because they considered it to be most suited to their six children.

An insider explained: ''They always wanted to have this wedding at the chapel at Miraval. That is their family home, it is where the children and they are at their happiest ... There was never a question of this ceremony taking place anywhere else.''

Angelina also paid tribute to her mother, wearing a special necklace which belonged to Marcheline.

A source told UK's OK! magazine: ''It was a small locket with a photo of her mother inside it.''
