Angelina Jolie is the cover star of Vanity Fair's December issue, with a stunning portrait by famed photographer Mario Testino. But as enchanting as the cover image is, it’s what the Oscar winning actress reveals inside the magazine that is of most importance. In the interview, the 39 year old opens up about married life as well as possible future career in politics.

“It does feel different,” Jolie says describing life after marrying her now husband Brad Pitt in August. Adding that “it feels nice to be husband and wife.”

At the couple’s wedding in France their vows were written for them by their six children Maddox, 13, Pax, 10, Zahara, 9, Shiloh, 8, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 6. “They did not expect us never to fight, but they made us promise to always say, ‘Sorry,’ if we do,” Jolie revealed. “So they said, ‘Do you?,’ and we said, ‘We do!’ ” she added.

In the interview Jolie also talks about her humanitarian work and how it mixes with politics. “When you work as a humanitarian, you are conscious that politics have to be considered,” the actress said. “Because if you really want to make an extreme change, then you have a responsibility.”

But wether or not Jolie will one day start a career in politics is still uncertain. “But I honestly don’t know in what role I would be more useful,” she continued. “I am conscious of what I do for a living, and that [could] make it less possible.”

However when asked directly asked if she sees herself pursuing a life in politics, diplomacy, or public service in the future the actress simply said, “I am open.”

Jolie also talked about the upcoming film Unbroken, which she directed. The film tells the true story of Louis Zamperini, an Olympic track star who survives a plane crash and is held for more than two years in several Japanese prisoner of war camps.

After the film was completed, Jolie spent time with Zamperi before his death at the age of 97 this past July.

“It was an extremely moving experience,” she said. “To watch someone watching their own life. . . someone so physically strong . . . and they are at the stage where their body is giving up.”

Jolie added that, 'poetically' Zamperi had stayed alive for “40 days and 40 nights,” before passing away.

Up next for Jolie is By the Sea, which she will direct and star in alongside husband Brad Pitt. Speaking about the film, which concerns a married couple experiencing difficulties, Jolie said, “A few friends asked if we were crazy . . . [A film about] a married couple going through some difficulties . . . and I’m directing him.”

Unbroken hits theatres on December 25th.
