Fears For Little Richard's Health After Bootsy Collins Tweet


Little Richard Bootsy Collins

The 83-year-old rocker, real name Richard Wayne Penniman has suffered from increasingly severe health problems in recent years.

And Parliament-Funkadelic bass guitarist Bootsy sparked fears among fans that his friend was experiencing a health crisis after writing on Twitter, "A friend, a legend & some say the true King of Rock & Roll. Lil-Richard needs our love & understanding right now,” in a post which linked to a lengthy article from December last year (15) about the Tutti Frutti rocker's health problems.

The article, by David Ramsey for the Oxford American magazine, detailed Richard's health problems since a hip operation went awry in 2009. He also reportedly suffered a heart attack in 2013.

Less than a year after renaming himself Snoop Lion, the rapper has once again changed his moniker to reflect his new musical direction with funk project 7 Days Of Funk.

The 'Drop It Like It's Hot' hitmaker has formed a collective with Dâm-Funk and the pair are releasing their debut album on December 10.

Bobby Womack Has Colon Cancer, Says Collins

Soul legend Bobby Womack has been diagnosed with colon cancer after he was admitted to hospital suffering from pneumonia, according to his pal William 'BOOTSY' COLLINS.

The singer/songwriter's health battle was revealed by Collins in a series of posts on his Facebook.com page on Sunday (25Mar12).

His first message read, "Funkateers, Send Prayers & Love Vibes Up for Bobby Womack. He is Fighting Pneumonia in the Hospital Now. Will Update After I talk to Him. Thx (thanks) u all."

Collins later returned to the site after speaking to the 68 year old, and told fans his friend is now facing a battle with colon cancer.

Bobby Womack is reportedly battling colon cancer.

The singer was hospitalised at the weekend, suffering with pneumonia, and later diagnosed with the condition, according to his friend, funk bassist Bootsy Collins.

Bootsy originally tweeted yesterday (25.03.12): ''Funkateers, Send Prayers & Love Vibes Up for Bobby Womack. He is Fighting Pneumonia in the Hospital Now. Will Update After I talk to Him. Thx u all (sic).''

Sly Stone Announces New Album - After 29 Years

Reclusive funk legend Sly Stone will release his first album since 1982 later this summer (11) with a little help from famous friends Jeff Beck and Bootsy Collins.

Stone's I'm Back! Family & Friends, which will be released on 16 August (11), will also feature many members of his former backing band, The Family, and The Doors keyboard player Ray Manzarek.

Stone's last studio release was 1982's Ain't But the One Way.

Funk Icon Collins Launches Online School

Funk legend Bootsy Collins is launching the first ever online guitar school for bassists.

The star, who rose to fame as a member of James Brown's backing band The J.B.'s, has founded Funk University, an institution which will teach musicians of all levels, from intermediate to advanced.

Collins will serve as the school's head professor and wannabe students have been invited to enrol at TheFunkUniversity.com.

In a statement, he says, "The best day of my life was when I graduated from university. The next best day of my life will be to see students graduate from F.U. (Funk University).

Funk legend Bootsy Collins is to front a new concert initiative aimed at raising funds for a James Brown museum in Kentucky.
The colourful star will headline the first in a series of annual tribute concerts honouring Brown on Saturday (22Dec07).
Proceeds from the Madison Theater gig in Covington, Kentucky, featuring rappers Chuck D and Lil' Boosie, rocker Buckethead and Brown's backing band The Soul Generals, will help fund renovation plans at the late soul legend's first recording base, King Studios, and a museum.
Brown, who died on Christmas Day last year (25Dec07), was Collins' mentor when he was starting out in music.

Funk icon Bootsy Collins has formed a new group, SCIENCE FICTION, with former GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Buckethead and the rock group's drummer Brain.
Both rockers previously played with Bootsy in Praxis. The new group will be fronted by producer/guitarist Greg Hampton.
Collins tells Billboard.com his new act is like, "Planet of the Apes," adding, "What would they be like? What would that feel like? We're just trying to warn the world that that's comin', and we're having fun with that."

Cult rocker SUFJAN STEVENS has become the latest star to package up an album of Christmas tunes.
The singer/songwriter has spent one week every year of the past five recording an EP of Christmas songs as a gift for family and friends.
These tracks will now be released as a festive compilation, called simply SONGS OF CHRISTMAS.
Funk superstar Bootsy Collins, Wynonna Judd and Aimee Mann are among the other stars releasing Christmas-themed albums this year (06).
