U2 frontman Bono is requiring surgery following a cycling accident in New York's Central Park. The 54-year-old's accident is so severe that the band have cancelled their planned residency on Jimmy Fallon's 'Tonight Show'.
Bono has been left requiring surgery after being involved in a bicycle collision.
The 54-year-old U2 frontman injured his arm in the accident in New York's Central Park, which has forced the 'Beautiful Day' band to abandon their week-long residency on Jimmy Fallon's 'Tonight Show' which was set to begin this evening (17.11.14).
In a statement on their website, the band wrote: ''It looks like we will have to do our 'Tonight Show' residency another time -- we're one man down.
''Bono has injured his arm in a cycling spill in Central Park and requires some surgery to repair it.
''We're sure he'll make a full recovery soon, so we'll be back!
''Much thanks to Jimmy Fallon and everyone at the show for their understanding.''
Details of the injury, how it was sustained, or the treatment which the star has received, have not been released.
It is also unclear when the incident occurred, as the singer-songwriter - who released his latest studio album 'Songs of Innocence' with bandmates The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. in September - was in London on Saturday (15.11.14), where he was recording lines for the latest Band Aid single alongside musicians including Rita Ora, Ellie Goulding, Sam Smith and hit-boyband One Direction.
The accident comes just days after the 'The Miracle' singer narrowly avoided another hospitalisation when a door fell off his plane while flying to Berlin, Germany.
Following the accident on Wednesday (12.11.14), a source said: ''He was extremely lucky, the plane could have gone down. About an hour into the journey they heard a big thud coming from the rear of the plane.
''They were at an altitude where anything could have happened and they are all feeling very lucky to be alive.''
