Bono and former Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker were the big winners at the U.K.'s annual Sony Radio Academy Awards on Monday (10May10).
The event in London honoured the best of British radio talent, and Cocker, who began hosting a show on BBC 6 Music earlier this year (10), picked up the ceremony's Rising Star prize.
And the rocker hopes his win will persuade BBC bosses to save the station - which is one of a number of the corporation's radio outlets bosses are planning to shut as part of cost-cutting measures.
He says, "6 Music is never going to be the biggest station in the U.K. but it would be devastating if it was to close. 6 Music isn't going to change the world - it just wants to make it a bit nicer."
The U2 frontman, who turned 50 on Monday, was awarded the trophy for Best Music Special for his one-off broadcast celebrating the music of Elvis Presley - in which he read a poetic tribute to The King on Radio 4 last year (09).
